Another vote for the VX5, I recently swapped from a fire dot unit to a normal duplex, no real reason other than just trying to get away from batteries. It never fails, ill swap a battery and its dead right when Id like to use it most. The cds system is awesome for hunting at normal hunting...
I was in a similar situation with my 270, my first thread was over the 140gr interlock 277 bullet flying great for over a decade. I recently gave the 160gr partition a try and it flies just as well and 100fps slower. If the accubond 140gr was as accurate I would have stuck with that. I think...
I ended up getting the 160gr partitions to group well and the velocity drop was 100fps between the 140gr interlock and the 160gr partition. Going to shoot a little this weekend out to 500 and see how well the velocity decay holds up so I can send off for another cds turret before season. The...
The 160gr over 53gr of hybrid v100 got it well inside an inch at 100 and just at 2850fps with the chrono about 15 feet from the muzzle. Tough to argue with that. Thanks for all the input folks!
Found some 150gr too over at Natchez , got them both loaded up and headed to shoot a little. Hopefully find something acceptable accuracy wise and gather some muzzle velocity data
If you are saving money by not buying additional optics (spotter) treat yourself and go with the bx4 or bx5. Nice set of 12x on a tripod, tough to beat in comfort.
I dug my heels in and ordered 300 140gr interlocks and 8lbs of V100 and primers....I figured it would last me the rest of my hunting days. Probably will. I ordered some 150gr partitions, going to give them one more try.
I don't disagree with the outfitter in terms of his rules being to be there provide me the best hunt and outcome. It's just tough to find components right now and if I found it, hoping it works out to be as accurate is a headache.
I have two rifles that I think are adequate for big game; this...
I try to see it from his angle, he sees all sorts of folks show up with gear and make bad shots etc etc etc I'm more along the lines of "a guy that only owns one gun, probably knows how to use it" mentality.
thanks! Im hoping to draw one more time before my father in law gets too beat up to come with me. I think this time next year I'll take my dad to a private ranch to kill on for his wall/freezer.
Im sure someone will disagree but inside of normal hunting distances pressure and temp don't matter to a hill of beans, off a bench with sand bags and wind flags and normal heart rate sure... maybe a measurable distance.
Most people i know use a range finder with angle compensation, so say i...
