Man not to bash a company but my god silencer central is so full of crap on their “direct to your door” style. My submittal time was 5 weeks, waiting 12 months on the atf and now they explain delivery time is about 3 weeks…..never again.- LostTexican

I hunt them in brush, anywhere that looks like you don’t want to sit in due to snakes and ticks is THE right place lol they poop in the same spots through out the day. From what I remember the only roads that allowed motor travel was the two main roads that intersect that make two boundaries on the refuge, all foot or bike after that!- LostTexican

You made the right choice OP! You can still get a fishing charter down there when you’re done with the refuge! If I remember correctly that permit says “any exotic” not just Nilgai, my father in law shot a random oryx on laguna, there’s also a small group of fallow deer running around.- LostTexican

Sabot Slugs vs Nilgai
I’ve shot Nilgai with rifled slugs, Remington cheapo 12g 2.75” rifled slugs. Your gun being semi auto is the best part of the combo. Any of those the slugs you listed will kill them dead as a hammer. Good luck , I hope you shoot a freezer full.- LostTexican

Cartridge: I’d shoot something YOU can shoot accurately, somewhat fast, reloads fast. I killed one Nilgai with a factory 12g slug at 1200fps, shot the second with a 45-70 420gr hand load going 1250fps. Nothing fancy. 7 mag with a tough, heavy bullet will be more than enough. Oh yeah, if you get in on a small herd and they’re not spooked they will just graze like cattle. With out a herd or cows near, the bulls seemed to really hang up at tree lines and breaks, acted very pressured. About 60-80 yards and then it just decreased from there, I shot him a total of 6 times! He was dead 100% on the first but those things take that lead for a walk if you let them. Recovered another slug the other day in a piece of loin.- LostTexican

Leupold Alumina caps
If your scope clears the barrel profile the cap will too.....it's threaded in to bell or eyepiece, leave it open and thread the lock ring in. I've broken every one that I have on every Leupold Scope I have. Not their fault just tough on stuff I guess. The magnets fall out that hold them shut...- LostTexican

I look at it like this, it's the only thing doing the killing in that system. I shoot the iron will heads, they're pricey, but if you were to add up all the other crap people spend money on in the hunting world I can find 119$ in anyone's budget for a good set of heads. Best hunting sidearm?
Revolver with snake shot is kinda tough to beat. I mostly hunt here in the east now days but I carry a Ruger LCR in 22lr. 4 40gr shells and 4 shot shells. I don't really rifle hunt here in the east too much so it's nice to have something lightweight, easy to carry and it's at least something...- LostTexican
