FNG, ready to start my quest for the elk, need some advice

Dont buy a savage axis. Nobody deserves that. Not even a FNG. Haha Id go the used route...buy a kimber mt 30-06, vx3i 3.5 x 10. I bet you can get it done for close to a grand. Buy the best 165-180 grain ammo you can shoot, spend looots of time on stair climber's with your pack on.

Colorado GMU 66 1st rifle Elk

Debating on giving colorado a go this year. Have my eye on this unit and possibly doing a drop camp or hiring pack services to get me back in there. Going solo as of right now cause none of my buddies bought points like I told em too... Anybody hunted this unit the past few years or interested...

    .325 WSM for elk

Yeah, when I first bought my kimber mt 300wsm, I thought it was a bit harsh. Put a slip on limbsaver on it, lifes good. I mostly shoot 180's @ 2950 but 200's @ 2900 arent noticeably worse.

    .325 WSM for elk

Limbsaver recoil pad. 2900 fps with a 200gr bullet can easily be done wirh a 300wsm. Never seen a critter too dead.

Montana late season rifle or archery

I appreciate the feedback fellas. Might all boil down to schedule, but that late season just may be the ticket... I love hunting in snow.

Montana late season rifle or archery

I havent decided whether to try the later rifle season or archery. I enjoy both times of year, so it really becomes a question of which is the best time to punch a tag.

Montana late season rifle or archery

No no no you dont. Why should I not plan on killing an elk besides my marginal elk hunting skills?

Montana late season rifle or archery

Thanks for the info. Whats so bad about the bitterroots? Looks like nice country...

Montana late season rifle or archery

The roots? Figured less elk, less people. I dont need thousands of elk, just the right 1. Im so disgusted with the central region being little belts mostly, that id rather put up with wolves and grizz , so im heading farther west again.

Montana late season rifle or archery

Debating between Bitterroots and Gravellies- Snowcrests... Are either better for archery or late season?

    First elk hunt bob marshal

Camo doesnt matter nearly as much as staying comfortable. I wear a mix of FL, sitka, kuiu mostly, different gear for different weather. Open country, sub alpine, any of em work. Try not to stink and move a lot. Good luck!
