Especially without mandatory reporting, which according to the rep I talked to is no guarantee anytime soon, although there's momentum heading in that direction.

There is a very real culture of in this part of Montana about "bending" game and fish rules, that Buzz and Gomer obviously also understand. Not full blown "poachers", but people who families that have party hunted for 50+ years. These are the people I'm worried about.
That's all fine and good, but I'm talking about what's going to happen in Montana, in the year 2020, which is what this thread and the accompanying article are about.
I agree that poachers are going to poach, but that does not mean we should make it easier for them. The old process...
Seems like a no-brainer to get rid of the mail-in process, and I am very glad to see FWP actually try to improve and adapt on something.
I know I'm a pessimist on things like this, but being able to print your own harvest tags seems ripe for abuse by Montana's party hunting culture.
Incredible ram, and great story. Congrats Bart! That country is no joke, and you did a good job of emphasizing that.
I knew John was a badass, but sheep hunting in Muck boots!?!? That's next level tough. It must've been something else to be able to pick his brain while hunting sheep.
Can I ask how long you've been hunting NE Montana? And what caliber buck you're after?
I'm not trying to be a dick or prove a point, I'm just trying to figure out why there's such a huge discrepancy in hunter satisfaction for Montana deer.
Yeah, I'd just go this route and buy a wolf tag. When I deer hunt in Idaho I always buy a wolf tag, and sometimes buy a bear tag. Main reason being they're so cheap. I dont want to burn my $350 deer tag on a wolf when I could've bought a $30 wolf tag.
That came off rude. It really is impossible to know without more details. If you're going to the Selway or Lochsa in September, your odds are very, very good. Southern Idaho in late October, I'd think your odds would be almost zero.
As a resident you have to ride it out. Truth is, no one knows what the future holds for these species and it's impossible to project any kind of numbers or odds. You're talking about 30 years in the future, who knows if we'll even be hunting these species then.
My wife and I both turned 12 the...
One other thing I thought of that came in really handy was quick-clot. I cut my thumb early in the butchering process of a deer. It was so nice being able to just throw that quick-clot on, wrap it up and get back to work. The cut wasn't bad enough that I wouldn't have gotten it to stop bleeding...
