20 year old Model 700 30:06 Practical advice needed

CFE-223 in .308

Tell Me About Game Bags
I’ve used the Allen bags for antelope and deer. No problems. In the end, it’s a sack with a cord closure. Kinda hard to justify paying a lot for that.- FLS

Best caliber for short to medium range woods hunting?
I’ve got an old Remington Model 7 in 308 with an 18 1/2” barrel. Topped with a fixed power Leupold and stoked with Sierra 180 Pro Hunters, is a great short to medium range hunter. -

Llama Hunting - Prices 2021- Ouch
Llamas are the in thing right now, and can command a premium price. You can still get a horse packer to haul you in and out for a very reasonable rate. I hired one for my muzzy hunt and was very happy with the service I got.- FLS

Perfect magnification ?
3-15. Wide field of view on the low end, more than enough magnification for any hunting scenario I have ever encountered on the high end. I’ve shot steel prairie dogs at a friends range at 1300 yds. 15x was plenty. -

Do you need an super duper magnum for elk?
I’ve smacked a few big game animals with a handgun. They don’t kill anything like a rifle, more akin to a bow kill IME. My thoughts are, if a guy picks up a handgun to hunt with, his skill set is advanced. He knows his and his weapons capabilities. It’s not done haphazardly. -

WY Unit 23 (looking for private land connections)
