I don’t know where you draw the line at hoarding vs being prepared. I wouldn’t have bought it all, but I would make sure my needs are covered for the foreseeable future. After the last batch of shortages I stocked up. I’ve got at least two 8 pound jugs of everything I use on the shelf.
If...
The 6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Remington, and 7-08 all have similar case capacities, and all shoot 140 grain bullets about the same speed, yet the additional . 007 makes the little 7 magic. I’ve killed a variety of game with all of them and see no difference.
I’ve never had any trouble finding 41 components. Even when other stuff is hard to come by.
Starline Remington or Winchester brass. Don’t overlook once fired. Straight walled pistol cases are hard to mess up.
Powder 296 or H110. Unique for plinking/ target loads.
Remington 210 soft points...
An AR with a standard 223 Remington chamber will be an odd duck. Most are 223/556 , 556, 223 Wylde, occasionally I see a 223 CLE. I would have a competent gunsmith take a look at it.
I hunted a group of farms here in SC with 4 other guys and we got 50 , five zero, Antlerless Deer Quota Program Tags per year. $50 per year. Lots of kids and newbies got their first deer or three on those tags thru the years. I found this pic. I shot those three on the first morning our doe...
Have you actually used the Game Changers?
I’ve shot a lot of game with NBTs, probably 100-150 whitetails between regular season and depredation work. 6mm, .25, 7mm, 270, and 30 cal. They all expanded very rapidly, just like they’re designed to. I loaded 120 NBTs is a 7-30 Waters carbine and...
Almost all of the massed produced big box store brands come out of China, so pick one, there is not hutch difference in any of them.
The Millenium stands seem to be a step up.
Hit or miss around here.
223/556, 308, 9mm, .40 is tough. Places that have it are limiting it to 1-2 boxes per person.
Hunting ammo depends on the caliber. Shotgun ammo is plentiful.
I’m well stocked on reloading supplies for a long while, made sure of that after the last shortage.
I’m a lot...
I’ve killed them with everything from a . 222 to a 45-70.
Every single one of them did i the same thing if I put the bullet in the vitals. Killed the deer. I’ve killed more with a 25-06 than anything. It works extremely well on deer sized game with being obnoxious.
I agree with some of what Mr Wentzel wrote. We are more reliant on technology. Denying that is silly. I believe it has made some over confident in their abilities. There also doesn’t seem to be as a much stigma of losing and animal now. A lot of “it happens”, or “that’s hunting” I believe that’s...
First tip to WY we walked 2-3 miles into a piece of BLM from the county road. Long story short, I killed a decent buck and was field dressing it when a pickup came up a two track from adjacent private. Guy in passenger seat had orange on. I assume he was the drivers customer. Guy driving was...
Take a look at AG Composites. I bought a Privateer for my 700 Mountain. Light, extremely rigid, and excellent fit and finish. As good as my McMillans with less than half the wait time, usually 4-6 weeks.
They inlet their stocks for 700s and clones and the Howa/ Vanguard rifles. There are...
Your not going to range and animal much beyond 4-500 with a handheld. Try and hit something big reflective near it.
The handhelds arent really adequate for LR comps either. At longer distances there is just too much movement and your prep time is very limited. Something fast and accurate is...
There is a waitlist at the Durham and it takes a while to get on.
The numbers were way down this year, and ranch manager told us they would be cutting the number of hunters significantly. Friends, family, and business associates get first pick then it goes down list in order of seniority. Some...
Agree with the muzzleloader advice above. If that’s not an option, I’d buy a rifled barrel for the shotgun you have and see what ammo it prefers. I’ve killed a bunch of deer with the Winchester BRI sabots out of a Remington 870 with a rifled barrel topped with a 4x Leupold. It shoots 2-3 inches...
