Yep 70 lbs on the nose. You have to check and weight everything you kill there. I passed several waiting on a her to give me a clear shot. i have no use for a big rank boar hog anymore.
I’ve killed a lot of hogs and I’m pretty picky about what I’ll shoot to eat anymore. She’s about perfect for the table.
I got that muzzleloader from a friend that passed after a long battle with ALS. It’s got alot of sentimental value and it shoots really well with those Barnes bullets.
Hunted a NWR here is SC last week and found a group of pigs rooting up a hardwood bottom while scouting . Slipped in the next morning and killed this little sow with my old 700 ML. Load was a 250 grain Barnes TEZ over 100 grains of Triple 7. Got her hams and shoulders in brine. They’ll go on...
Tikka T1X or CZ 457 gets my vote.
Savage Mark 2s are usually tack drivers, but are plagued with feeding issues. Mine took a lot of tinkering to get it to feed and extract reliably.
Great story and a great deer! I’ve hunted a good amount public in SC, mostly near the coast. Killing a mature buck is quite an accomplishment. I’m guilty of not being very patient when hunting public.
I love my wheel guns. My favorite is a 6” S&W 657 .41 magnum. Most accurate handgun I’ve ever shot. I’ve killed several deer and hogs with it. Second is a well worn Model 10. With 158 grain loads it a tackdriver.
I use a canoe to access some WMAs along our local rivers. It’s a very quiet way to access your hunting area and makes for an easy pack out. I can’t count how many deer, hogs and turkeys I’ve paddled up on. Canoes and longbows or lever guns seem a natural match.
I mostly shot Factory Amax ammo or Sierra 123 SMKs over 8208 XBR. The only problem I had with the Grendel was that once the round count got high, I would break extractors. I got in the habit of carrying a spare to matches. Also, Hornady was generous with the Amax's BC. it was actually about...
I shot a Grendel for a couple of years in some local tactical/ precision matches. I built mine around one of the Alexander Arms Lothar Walter barrels. 24” with . 875 gas block.
Very accurate rifle.
Bow technology keeps making everything better and more shooter friendly. The midrange bows today are exponentially better that what was available in the past. I mostly shoot a recurve but keep a compound in reserve so that when an old injury starts bothering me I can still shoot. I shoot a 10 yo...
I’ve watched guys fumble drawing or empty a magazine trying to hit a 8” plate at 15 yards shooting powderpuff loads out of a handgun that’s been slicked up for competition after the timer goes off. The idea that your going to draw and hit a moving target under maximum stress with a magnum...
