Hello,
I usually lurk around a forum to get a feel for the surroundings and see if I want to participate. The water seems fine around here so I thought I'd jump in a bit. I've enjoyed shooting in one for or another all my life but have just recently started big game hunting (2 years of Coues...
Stick with it, it's not something that you learn overnight. Definitely try some of the heavier bullets to see if your barrel prefers them. You might also get someone that you have confidence in shoot some groups with it. That way you have a baseline of how much of it is you and how much is the...
Oh ye of little faith.
My 6.5 CM makes my breakfast in the morning, scouts its own game, shoots it at 2000yds and packs it out for me.....all before lunch!
I like to shoot year 'round, you know what they say, "practice makes perfect". Thomas Haugland has come up with some great practice exercises and his long range proficiency test. While I really love practicing at 500yds+ (and everything in between) sometimes I only have time to get to the local...
I'm shooting the 175 LRX in my 300wsm with RL-16 and recommend it. RL-16 has better temperature stability than RL-17 but is right in the same burn rate band.
All, I'm in the market for a new rangefinder. Use would be for bowhunting (total n00B, trying for the first time this season) and rifle hunting/target out to 1000yds.
My question is about magnification. If I was just going to use it for shooting I'd just go with something like a Sig Kilo 2000...
It's good to know your options
Personally my approach has been to chase the best accuracy (via seating depth) whether it fits in the mag or not. That way I have all the data and can make an informed decision about which load to adopt.
If a load is a lot (only you can decide what "a lot"...
I got one of the new Bergara B-14 Ridge models in 6.5CM last week. Build quality is excellent for the price. Lots of testing ahead to see if I can get it to shoot well.
I keep every load in Reloader's Workshop. It's a very nice (and inexpensive, $16) way to track all of your reloading activities.

Highly recommend it.
