My personal rule is I would only use a match bullet that has a plastic tip to help initiate expansion. As long as it expands they're pretty similar to the standard cup and core hunting bullets that have been used forever. For more pentatration on tougher game (ie elk) go with a tougher bullet.
It's true I was amazed how much smoother running the bolt is with everything trued and finished nicely.
And I'm really happy with the bead blasted finish. I would have loved to go with cerekote but man the budget was already being stretched to the limit here :)
Congrats, I bet you're gonna love that Tikka!
For the initial break in I just did the typical clean after every shot then shoot a couple of groups cleaning after each one. The barrel doesn't need it IMHO but most of the barrel makers recommend it for smoothing the throat. I don't know if it's...
For sure. I have both on the shelf although I'm really reluctant to use RL 26 because it's so hard to come by. Same with H1000.
Once I get loads established I like to buy enough powder to last for the life of the barrel.
RL 23 & 25 are also candidates although H100v looks pretty good with the...
I almost went 24". I do like how it handles with the 22". That combined with the short action make it really handy.
The main reason I went 22" is I'm planning on adding a suppressor and I wanted to try to strike a balance between keeping the length down and velocity up.
I'm hoping to shoot the Hornady 180 ELDM and 139 Barnes LRX. I generally like to have (at least) two loads for my hunting rifles. One is for longer shots and practice (eldm) the other is for more all around hunting with non-lead.
According to the Berger calculator 1:9 will stabilize the 180 at...
Hi guys
I've only shot factory rifles up to this point. They're worked just fine but I wanted something a little more special so I got my Remington 700 blueprinted and re-barreled. I just got it back from my gunsmith and I'm super excited! I've put 15 rounds down the tube doing the standard...
I answered "sometimes copper sometimes lead". I usually develop two loads for each of my hunting rifles, one lead, one non-lead. That way I'm covered.
I used a Barnes bullet on my cow elk last fall and it worked really well. I never found the bullet...until one day my wife was cutting into a...
Isn't the 6mmRem a necked down 257 Roberts?
If so you can use that Nosler brass and make your own

I have a B14 Ridge in 6.5CM with almost 600 rounds through it. I use handloads with LRP and haven't had an issue with the shroud. As stated above the news ones have a machined shroud so it shouldn't be a problem at all. I really love the Bergaras. A buddy has a Ridge in 7RM that shoots bugholes...
I just have this feeling that once you get used to shooting with a suppressor, you're going to want to hunt with it too. For me one of the biggest draws would be not having to mess with ear pro in the field.
I would love to own a "6.5x68 Schuler" one day. The only reason is because that's my last name and I think it would be cool to have a cartridge with my name on it.
Thanks!
It's a Remington 700, factory barrel chambered in 300wsm. I added a Timney trigger and a Bell and Carlson stock. Vortex HST scope. I'm shooting Barnes 175gn LRX handloads.
It's been a good rifle but it's going to get a blueprint job and a new barrel this winter in 7 SAUM.
Thanks guys.
I definitely wasn't trying to diminish the quality of a cow hunt. I will say though that as tough as it was, a bull would have taken me a lot longer :)
I was super excited to harvest my first elk this week! Even though it was only a cow hunt I learned a ton and had a great time doing it. I regularly practice shooting out past 500yds for cross canyon shots here in AZ. I shot this cow at 62 yards. Very fun!
Don't mind my super duper camo....the...
