    Dry Ice

I want to spare no expense at keeping any potential meat safe while I pack out the animal and transport it home. Does anyone use dry ice in their coolers or is that a bad idea? I was thinking of using some dry ice to supplement my block ice jugs but it got me to thinking, would it be better to...

    Meat bags!

I have a brand new set of Caribou Bags I can part with...only thing is they are moose sized. It's the magnum moose kit you can see on their website. Never used but I'd be a lot happier having someone use these than have them sit in my closet. Hit me up by DM if interested.

Caribou game bags Moose bag kit

Hello. I accidentally bought a set of moose sized game bags last season. They look way too big (and heavy) to use on my elk hunt. This is a full set of bags. Never used. Check out their website. I'm open to cash or trade or whatever interesting proposition you have. Would like these to go to use...

    Ideal Camp Location

Hi Backpack hunters, wanted to ask your input on how you select a campsite? Anything you're looking for or anything you're looking to avoid? How about location...what are your considerations for camp location in relation to where you expect to glass/hunt etc? Last question is moving: do...

    Guides/Packout help near Vail CO

Hi folks, I'm planning a solo, first rifle, either sex elk hunt near Vail CO in October. Plan A is to kill and pack out an elk myself, but some of the hunt talkers I've been talking with have suggested I oughtta have a plan B in place to get some help packing out in case I need it. Does...

    Sleeping bag decision help

That's a good point. I set the date range for the first rifle season and looked at the historical data for the nearest city, but where I am planning on hunting will be a couple thousand feet higher than that city. 28 was the average Low

    Packout sequence and Trailhead Safety

Hi hunt talkers, I am planning my first solo backpacking elk hunt and thinking optimistically about packing out an animal. If this has been answered before, I apologize, but I was wondering what sequence you'd carry out your elk parts, if you were a person packing out solo? Second...

Thanks to all three of you. I think I will pull the trigger on a 15 bag and make sure I'm covered in case it's cooler or warmer.

    Sleeping bag decision help

Hello, Im looking at a hunt in October where they have average lows of 28 deg overnight. My inclination right now is to get a 15 degree bag in case there are any lower than average nights...however Im wondering if this would be too much bag if it's higher than average temps (say in the 30s)...

Nope. We aren't really allowed to work on guns due to our insurance coverage. Which is totally cool by me. We usually tell people to take it to the best local gunsmith. Sorry it's not something we can help with.

    Machine Shop Time

Hey hunt talkers, I am a third generation machinist and own and operate a CNC shop. I do a lot of work for the local charter fishing boats and other hobby groups I'm involved with, but I wanted to throw an offer out here to the hunt talkers if you ever need parts machined. I'm open to trades...

    Help or Hindrance

Hi hunt talkers...got a weird one for you today, and wanted to get some opinions of the more experienced elk hunters. I'm poised to go on my second ever elk hunt this fall. My plan is to go at it alone, and camp out in the wilderness to try and get a little separation from other hunters. I...
