This may be of interest to some. Perspective from a local politician who was elected to slow growth but realized it was impossible.

It’s definitely an education problem.
It’s also a society problem. You can’t teach people who don’t want to learn or don’t care. And where do you draw the line...just because someone can’t identify an invasive on their property, and they spread it to public lands or other private property. Is...
I think the problem is most hunters really don't have an idea on how much habitat has actually been lost to invasive weeds so they can't understand it. They see lots of wide open country and assume it's fine because lets be honest, most people from my experience cannot identify basic invasive...
Predators are a true impact but the amount of attention and anxiety they receive on a broad scale is amusing considering other impacts.
I don’t see regular threads titled “mule deer vs invasive weeds” for example. To date, I have not talked to a game biologist who is aware of successful large...
Would be great to see what folks are doing to be part of the solution for declining mule deer populations. Degraded habitat and loss of habitat are a component of the decline. Let's hear some stories or see some pictures. Whether its volunteering on public lands or improving habitat on private...
There isn’t a better substitute than the native grasses, forbs, shrubs, and trees they evolved with.
The benefit of restoring land with native vegetation is compounded by providing habitat to every other native species in that area. From host plant relationships that build the insect food chain...
I think you are spot on.
I have always felt everyone who eats meat should go through at least one experience where they kill/process their own animal. It's too easy to eat meat in our society without appreciating the life behind it, or how it got on your plate.
There are ways to do that, although I'm not sure you'd really want to see the results!

Thank you for your response, Carnage.
I certainly do not think it's apples to apples. I can think of a couple Idaho units off the top of my head where the elk population has definitely been impacted, and I mentioned that in my earlier post. The point I am making is plenty of elk opportunity...
Well guess what? public lands are held in trust for the general public, not just hunters.
If you perceive the wolves are pushing all of the elk onto private lands you can always purchase private land. Or you can support politicians who want to expand public lands instead of selling them.
It...
I much prefer public land simply for the adventure and experience. I have the money and options to hunt private land in the west but it does not even enter my mind! Maybe when I'm older but there are too many beautiful places out there and too little time. I'm thankful for every animal I harvest...

Here’s an interesting topic. Would campaign finance reform fit into a modern conservative movement? Forget the other major political party who also has this issue, please focus on where this fits into a modern conservative movement.
Is it “free speech” for corporations to donate unlimited...
Good read.
I personally believe the last great republican was Dwight Eisenhower, who was well before my time. Some of his policies and stances would not have aged well but he had an impressive list of accomplishments, many of which 'helped the little guy'...and by little guy I mean most of...

Exciting news in my opinion. More big news for the Yurok tribe which will also see the Klamath dams removed in the near future if everything goes according to plan.
