Here in WA where I'm at I'm paying a lot more than that, plus I'm surrounded by "progressives" that would like me to be paying 1/2 my income to help fund every dirt bag that wants to live in the NW and not work.
My preference is WY. Would probably not be in the Star Valley if it was all up to...
That is about $100,000 less than where I am now and I own a couple properties here so it would be cheaper there than where I am. I'd likely sell one of them here. WA, does not have income tax so I would be paying 6.9% more in MT, but property taxes are super high here as well as high sales tax...
So... I'm reaching a point where my son will be done with HS in the next year. I have worked remotely for 20 years so I can choose to live where ever I want. I love hunting both MT and WY. State taxes are an issue, so I would say that combined with the hunting puts WY on the top. BUT... my GFs...
I changed my sons app since he a drew a premium AZ archery elk tag!
If you already drew the MT tag go there this year and WY next. I think MT only gives you back 80% of the price if I remember right.
They are great in the right place, but not for everywhere.
The 2nd pic is my current setup with a fatbike and panniers. I now use the panniers for packing in camping and hunting stuff and will get the cart when I have an elk down. I hauled last years elk out 8 miles in one trip, splitting the...
As others have said, moon phase it the last on your concerns. Weather and hunting pressure which are harder to predict will have a much greater impact. Get in the woods and hunt the dates you can. I've killed some great bulls during full moon phases.
Good info from Randy/
WY is a state that rewards hard work. A guy can work his a$$ off with a general tag and shoot a great bull. A guy can expect a great hunt after investing 10+ years in points and shoot an average bull. It's the #1 state I hunt where points don't matter more than effort...
Well... In the end it didn't matter except for causing me a lot of stress. I got in Wednesday, almost got blown off the mountain in my tent that night, got up and shot a 6 point Thursday morning had him all hauled out Friday. Left early Saturday am in a blizzard :) Just the way I planned it. Not!
Kensley... you're cracking me up. Jealous because I am an advocate of public land hunting?
"Doing it right" being a promoter of the privatization of hunting and hunting land? Selling yourself as a hardcore "backcountry bowhunter" who is actually hunting on dude ranches and indian reservations...
Yes superdave450!! I have the utmost respect for guys like Randy and guys like Nate Simmons who stick to their guns and hunt public land, get what they get and are advocates for all us public land hunters.
These IG celebrity hunters that are only about getting their good pics of a big bull...
LOL, not! I shoot great bulls on public land every year. Nothing to be jealous over.
Just like to bust his balls for turning into such a poser. He built his rep on being a "Backcountry Bowhunter" and still tries to play that, but only hunts private ranches with celebs now. It would be like...
"What is the expectation for predation affecting elk in this unit? Grizz? Wolves? Cam Hanes? "
Well... Since Cam only hunts private dude ranches now I don't think you have to worry about him. He'll be too busy taking pics for Instagram with an elk quarter or two slung over his shoulder walking...
