    Do you get tired?

Never expected so many responses. I find myself wanting to hunt more (of course, grounded since shoulder injury in May, surgery on 11/8), so the "tired" for me is related to all the things in surrounding life. At 65, retirement is around the corner, but I cannot allow myself to think that when...

    What's on the smoker today?

We looked at offset, in charcoal, so we could actually grill in addition to smoke. Found that all-in-one results in compromise. Our pit boss pellet smoker works very well - the double wall construction is nice for smoking in cold weather (fired it up at 25 deg this morning with three racks of...

    EOY ‘23 - What Worked, What Didn’t?

My Asolo boots made it to the garden - they are filled with dirt and flowers planted in them. Went to Vasque Breeze, the best boot I have had in 50 years of hiking/backpacking/hunting. YMMV David NM

    Favorite beverages

I have a different favorite every pour. Guns and Oil is a good one, as is Moose Drool. Rod's Best Bitter here in Santa Fe is the best ESB I have ever had, and Guinness in all of its incarnations is a good pint. Red Chair from Deschutes is close to the top, as is Rogue's Yellow Snow. Kolsch...

    Do you get tired?

My boss is a hunter. Big ol' Minnesota guy, mid-50's, tremendous condition. He seems to always draw at least two tags, if not more, and usually tough draws here in NM. He takes friends hunting, his wife hunts, as do his kids. Dragged me out of my chair to my Ibex hunt in early '22, and he was...

How young is too young to hunt.

I was 4-1/2 when my dad and his buddy took me out on a quail hunt with a new dog. At 5-1/2 I got to carry a shotgun. At 6-1/2 I was shooting at doves. David NM And I still shoot AT doves.

    Sh*t our kids do

My youngest gave me more than one bloody nose that way. And he was quick - could pull my glasses off and have them wadded up before I could react. David NM

New Mexico Landowner tags. ELK Hunters

Honestly, I have little sympathy for a Non Resident complaining about the system. Hard enough already for us residents! (tongue partly in cheek there) I don't like parts of the system here - too much money made by selling tags, but my upbringing did not contain the concept of selling a tag...

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

I used to think I would make a good hermit. Covid lock-down made me realize I was fooling myself, and I am actually a pretty social guy. I like hunting camp, with a group of guys. But the key is that we pretty much each have our own camp (or sub-groups do), sharing the base camp location. We...

    NM elks...

No need to put me on a list. Just enjoy time with like-minded friends, and activity to get my old joints moving. Optimistic I can actually start to do stuff again in March or April. David NM

    Football General Talk

All they needed was a defense. As a Niner fan, I wasn't rooting for them, but Romo was a far better qb than the majority of fans give him credit for. If your defense holds other teams to 17 or less, you will win almost all of your games. But if you are giving up 20-24, you will not have...

    Football General Talk

Much more. Romo's teams had no D at all. Not a Cowboy fan, but Jerry was trying to use him to win on the cheap, and Garrett was a worse coach than commentator. Look at Romo's numbers, he was a very good qb with no supporting cast. David NM

    Hunt Talker 2023 Fitness Goals

When I carefully track, I find the 3500cal/# to not be accurate. I also find I need far fewer than 2000cal/day for maintenance unless I am working hard. David NM
