    Wyoming unit 8

I guess that was my point...I like hunting in an area that work can correlate with success. My experience in 8 is that it's more a matter of waiting rather than working, which is tough if you're not here all the time. It's the same with some of the surrounding HMAs...if they're not there you...

    Wyoming unit 8

Just curious. Why did you put in for it? Not much public and what there is gets hammered. You can have some success if you are a local and can drive out multiple times late season to check if the herd is on public yet. But it would be a hard hunt to just show up and find elk.

Population Growth and Hunting in Rocky Mountain States

Perhaps the growth is not so dramatic across ALL Rocky Mountain states: Wyoming Had Slowest Population Growth in West, Census Says...apparently Utah and Idaho are where it's at! Percent change in population from 2010 to 2020: Wyoming - 2.3% --> average annual growth rate of 0.23% New Mexico -...

    De-publicize, De-glorify and De-monetize Western State Hunting

As a resident in the same town as you, my excuse was that I had meetings for my actual job for almost all of the day today (as I do most days), but I did manage to jump on for the deer and elk sessions. I guess I'm also not sure what you would have me be "advocating" for. In response to the...

Hunter recruitment is why are WY resident draw odds getting worse for antelope

Not whining...just wondering (I've already contributed to the problem by recruiting my wife...soon it'll be my boys to -- there I go from one applicant to five!). Remember, I'm a scientist, so I have to know WHY something is the way it is :D

Hunter recruitment is why are WY resident draw odds getting worse for antelope

Maybe you're right...perhaps I should scrap any notion of averages and just assume that any new population growth will be recruited into hunting at 1300% of the previous rate. It is possible that it's not really recruitment, but actually participation. Maybe some of the folks that used to apply...

Hunter recruitment is why are WY resident draw odds getting worse for antelope

My personal experience over the past two and a half decades of hunting antelope in WY as a resident is that draw odds are getting worse. The draw odds show that this is not only my perception, but it is a reality. After reading the threads on Population Growth and Hunting as well as the derailed...

Another entry level alpha bino ?

They were VERY close. At low light is was almost impossible to tell a difference (maybe the Zeiss were brighter with the SLCs making it up in contrast). The final decision for me was glassing hillsides in daytime against a rising/setting sun. I got noticeably less flare with the Zeiss's than the...

Another entry level alpha bino ?

For alpha glass, I prefer the Zeiss Victory over the SLCs (I hope I don't get kicked off the forum for saying that!:D)

Another entry level alpha bino ?

Zeiss Victory = alpha, Zeiss Conquest = NOT alpha. For my money, I would buy Nikon Monarch 7s -- they were by FAR the closest (vs. green ring Leupolds and Vortex Viper HDs) to my Zeiss Victory T*FL and Swaro SLCs...and they were a fraction of the price.

Wyoming Legislators Propose Lowering Hunting Age

I saw yesterday that this was signed...good deal! It'll help out 2 of my 3 kids.

Hunting with wife and toddler advice

I have 3 boys all close together (3 1/2 years between the youngest and oldest). My oldest is now 11 and my youngest is 7. I have taken them elk hunting with me (and my wife) since the oldest was 6. In the past 5 years they've watched me take two bulls, my wife take a cow, and my dad (their...

    Wyoming Application question

It opened on January 4 and closes June 1 (https://wgfd.wyo.gov/hunting/application-dates-and-deadlines). The 2021 regs have not yet been approved, they only have draft regulations out (https://wgfd.wyo.gov/WGFD/media/content/April_CH-5_Draft-3-22-2021-4.pdf). Per the application booklet they say...

Anyone have experience with the new Weatherby rifles coming out of Wyoming?

I didn't. The barrel still free floats, so I expect that it will still shoot fine. The OP had specifically asked about fit and finish -- on a $500 rifle I wouldn't even blink an eye about 1/16" on the barrel channel, but i just expected a bit more from the Mark V with an AG Composites stock. The...

Anyone have experience with the new Weatherby rifles coming out of Wyoming?

I picked up a Wyoming-made Weatherby Mark V Accumark Pro in a 6.5 Creedmoor a few months ago. I like the stock on it and the action. But barrel is noticeably not aligned well in the barrel channel and the most forward scope mounting screw hole seems to be not fully tapped. I had to get a gizzy...
