    Round balls in an inline

So this year I ended up hunting with the one load you shouldn't use in an inline muzzleloader. A .50cal patched roundball with 80gr. by volume pyrodex. I'm shooting this out of my CVA Accura. I drew an antelope tag for NW Colorado and started the load building process as my original load of...

    Howdy from NoCo

Just realized your supposed to post something here...oops... Anyway, normal "I've been stalking the forum then I joined." I'm only 16 from northern Colorado but I like to use every one of the few cents I have on gasoline ammo or arrows. Only really got into biggame this year since I'm no longer...

    Weird Stalks

That's pretty great! Wish I could have been there for those good old days.

    Weird Stalks

Checked regs and called cpw before using a flag. That's a cool strategy. Not many cows where I was so if I hunched over they'd interpret it as stalking not a cow...orange doesnt help either...

    Weird Stalks

Sounds like fun. That's pretty dang close for a rifle.

    Elk vs. Wolves

I don't think it's worth the trouble. "They're coyotes" I've never experienced this myself but never heard someone talk about a report (of griz or wolves) where they didn't become a laughing stalk.

    Weird Stalks

So I'm reflecting on the year qnd am very happy with how it went, all 3 of my fall tags filled, all a blast, all with their own story. My big hunt for the year was antelope in NW CO which was a blast and I learned a lot. What really struck me was all the weird ways you can get close to them. I...

    Muzzleloader Help

I can only vouch for the stricter western laws. I use a 270 grain powerbelt platinum with a magnum load (120 grains) of BH209 and a triple seven primer. Works great for me but again, powerbelts and muzzleloader primers have mixed reviews. If I weren't in Colorado though I would probably use a...

taking a survey out of curiosity

I agree with everything your saying at this point in my life (I'm 16 but I've helped a couple of my buddies get into the woods). Last spring I spent 150 hours turkey hunting with my bow and didn't connect, and next spring I'll be out with my bow again. I'm planning a doe hunt 3 miles of the...

taking a survey out of curiosity

My thought is that if you take a 12 year old out to "enjoy the suck" they won't. Enjoying the suck is a learned skill in my opinion. If you take a kid out into the freezing cold or hike day in and day out, they may give up on it. You and I encounter that and say "just need to work harder...

    Colorado 191 Deer

I've got a late season doe tag for Colorado units 19, 191, & 9 which pretty much means just 191 for me at this point. My plan was to still hunt around pingeree park but that won't work given the fire situation. I'm not trying to steal anyone's spot but do you have any advice for 191? Should I...

A bit of a an crappy day in a horrible year......

Sorry to hear that. Most of my deer area got torched by cameron peak fire so I can understand the frustration.

    Colorado Jacks

I'm late but still might be useful. If you're on the western slope, I've seen quite a few in unit 4 (BLM). If you're among us easterners, I've seen them at Webster SWA and around Pawnee National Grassland. Most in both areas are slightly larger than a fawn antelope.

    Colorado GMU 511

I'm not sure you'd be able to to get a tag for the 2020 season at this point. I've spent a bit of time near the academy, never seen any elk there but deer and turkeys are like rats (in my experience). Also, the late season cow tag in 511 is is private land only which wouldn't allow you to hunt...

    Ella's first Quail hunt

Sorry I'm late to the party but I'll still add my piece. First of all, congrats on a great hunt with a great dog, my Brit and I are starting our second season together and hunting behind a pointer is a blast. One thing I realized pretty quickly in the training process is that the knowledge of...

    Safe to eat?

That should be fine. I've done that with small ducks before and I'm still kickin. Probably wouldn't try it with a honker but a pheasant is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

taking a survey out of curiosity

IMO, I think you should take a 'younger youth' out on private if the opportunity is available. If the kid is a bit older and understands the uncertainty of hunting a bit better (or at all) I think it matters less. That said, I'd rather take a new kid out then not so if public is your only...

    CO Prop 114- Passed

Thanks very much. Hopefully the delisting will allow CPW to take care of them at the state level, unlike Idaho at first (how I understand it). It will be interesting to watch how it goes.

Butchering - Silver, tallow, and tendons

Thanks for sharing. I did my own goat this year and made quite a few mistakes in this regard. Didn't look into prices beforehand but it sounds like I'll be perfecting home butchering over the next few years...

How big must a bull or buck be to mount?

I think its about meaning more than score. I mounted a 120" muley because it was my first buck and I loved it so much. If it were me, I'd mount anything bigger than a spike that came out of SoDak. If you don't shoulder mount it, I'd certainly try to euro mount it.
