A friend of mine in the UK has these and he uses them for pointing, picking up with duck flighting and tracking big game. They are more highly strung than a lab but I agree, less so than a GSP.
Good advice, thanks! I have about 8 areas scouted. I think maybe one of them is bellow 8,000 feet. I have certainly applied the logic of elk will be where hunters don’t want to go in looking for spots.
If you had 2 weeks to hunt the Montana general season elk in SW Montana. Would you hunt the first part of the season or the latter?
Being from the UK, any preseason scouting wont be possible, so we will be turning up blind to our scouted areas. I realise there are a lot of variables such as...
Yea, it is surprising that you don’t across the pond. I can see why game wardens would be against it but I would think that the money to be made from their use would do some talking...
Not many European countries allow them either. I know Spain does and Germany only recently.
Pretty much everyone uses one in the UK, including myself. Makes a difference to recoil and sound suppression. Some much better than others, the better ones tend to be heavier. Plenty of discussion on them in UK deer stalking forums. Have a search on ‘The Stalking Directory’.
Hi guys,
I am planning my first Elk trip for 2022 in Montana and I have e-scouted some spots using Randys logic and onx maps. Now, I also have a desire to go after black bear and had a thought that I could do a spring black bear trip all the while scouting out some elk spots and glassing...
South Africa in March to see an old school friend for some fishing and hunting. UK stalking through out the year for Roe, Muntjac, Fallow and Water deer.
Ive only had Mule deer and Antelope. Comparing them to those 2 I would say not. The Mule deer tasted similar to our Fallow deer but I couldnt match the antelope to anything we have.
My heaviest Roe buck weighed in at 21kg - that's big for a Roe. The average I would say is around 16-18kg.
Muntjac tend to come in around 8-10Kgs for males, females a little smaller. Water deer are similar.
All larder weights.
I was out with a friend between lockdowns and we visited one of his permissions which is small but has 4 of the 6 UK deer species on it; red deer, Roe deer, Muntjac and Chinese Water deer on it.
We were targeting the later two and I'm not sure they come under the 'big game' tag of this section...
What’s the going rate on Alpacas?
like anything in life, there are things you can afford and things you can’t. If you can’t, you can make sacrifices in other areas to afford it.
Small world, I know Lee and have shot a few Roe bucks with him. I made the fatal error of forgetting about a muntjac I left in his chiller and remembered only when I was back in London. At least he enjoyed it! Pub crawling is great until you have to be up at 5am for stalking the next day
