I, too, am glad you guys filmed this. I watched the first episode today and loved every minute. As a father of 4 young boys I found myself smiling at the frustrations of having a youngster on the hunt with you....knowing that I wouldn't trade that time or experience for the biggest deer on the...
I'd take a closer look at #3 and the last one as well. They look to carry the most mass. The others are pretty young. Some have decent length, but lack mass.
Beautiful animals, regardless. That last one looks like he's laughing at you.
Good on you both for sticking with it. This will be a valuable lesson learned for your daughter. Kids need to know that they can do hard things.
Good job, Dad!
Congratulations! Sounds like you earned it....or at least you paid you dues! It's great to see folks stick to something difficult and have it pan out. You'll remember those experiences for a very long time. And if you're like me, a little time goes a long way towards helping you forget about...
My oldest son drew his first ever elk tag this year in NM. He has been talking nonstop about this hunt since the draw results came out last Spring. The time finally came and we hit the road with our neighbors (who have two boys who also had anterless elk tags). We rolled in and got camp set up...
I have and use a 10' X 14' Kodiak Canvas tent (similar to the Springbar tents mentioned above) which I have been very happy with. During the colder months I use a Big Buddy heater inside to take the chill off. The only reservation I would have is if you are planning on doing a lot of camping...
Very observant of you. We discussed this and initially the plan was to reproduce this. However, when he actually went to do it he was having a tough time making it look right. He called me and asked what I thought, but ultimately I deferred to his opinion there.
Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed reliving my hunt with me. He's a uniquely colored ram that's a trophy in my book in every way. Glad I got to share the experience with good friends. I'm extra glad to have had their strong backs to help me get that beast off the mountain!
