Appreciate it.
I’m not either..and everyone’s eyes are different. I prefer my $1000 maven binos over $2400 leicas. Just curious what you had experience with.
I typically steer clear of anything vortex, as I think there’s way too much fanboyism there. Everyone who LOVES them is in denial, feel...
Thanks.
I’ve thought of renting too. Or just make due with my binos, but a little more power I think would be nice, for shooting, scouting, and hunting.
It’s a little easier to stomach purchasing, since I have a few kids, oldest 11, so in a handful or 2 years from now, I can give him my cheaper...
Mind telling me which $700 one? And how long ago? I think as a whole, $700 10 years ago compared to now is a world of difference, as technology has improved.
I’m keeping my eye on a lot of classifieds for used, just not a lot of options at the moment
Also, I think 45x would be just fine. Sounds like you start to lose clarity and brightness quick at 60x on anything less than 80mm, in which case there’s really no point in getting 20-60
Originally wanted the S1.A, but like I said, the size isn’t practical for this particular hunt IMO.
I’ve seen the CS1 or whatever, the $650 one. Is an option as well, but I’ve heard the Athlon is a little better clarity.
ive thought of planning the demo program right at the time of the hunt...
3 top options I’m looking at now:
Athlon Ares G2 15-45x65 (compact, great reviews/bang for buck, but only 45x)
Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD 20-60x60 (a little bigger, but get full 60x. Cheaper so more budget left for tripod/accessories and other gear)
Leupold SX-4 Pro Guide 15-45x65 (a little...
I've looked through every spotting scope thread here, and haven't really found answers to my questions.
Most people are looking for recommendations for deer/elk/antelope hunting. I was lucky enough to get a goat tag this year, and while it's extremely exciting, I quickly found out that I have...
Check REI. Members get 20% off any full price item right now til the 31st, and some other bigger sales on a handful of things. I’ve saved over $250 on a few pieces for my hunt this year. Multiple orders and you ge the discount each time ;)
If I were you, and REALLY wanted chase goats, I’d apply in multiple states, every year. Don’t apply for the most sought after units and your odds go up a bit.
But you need to do it EVERY year.
My family and I have had our fair share of LE permits for elk, moose, sheep, goats in Montana.
Mostly...
My moose from here (Montana) last year was great. I’ve never had elk steaks go as fast as those moose steaks did (3-4 months MAYBE). My dads a while back was too.
I have heard it’s a little hit or miss, either really good or really bad. Mine seemed to hang out in the willows and in the creek...
Congrats! I’ve seen a few pictures of that one, here, and other sites. That thing is massive..especially his left side.
As I’ve thought about it some more, I think it’s about spot on. Probably 195lbs ish, processed and packaged meat, when I include the 30 or so lbs of trim from the field...
Not trying to revive an old thread..but I just heard my moose is done (Montana bull), and came out with 168# total, vacuum packed everything, no grind. 50#steak, 118# trim.
Seams a little low? We aren’t the best field butchers, and I don’t think he was the biggest moose on the mountain, but I...
I asked about that. He said usually only for elk, and Alaskan sized moose. Stuff that gets too wide for doorways.
a little undecided for now..but being on 43” wide, I feel like I may be able to wiggle it through a door ok 🤷🏻♂️
Good lookin moose. Hope you find a place for him.
Sad the meat wasn’t very good. I’ve had it before and it was some of the best meat I’ve had. Anxious to try mine.
