    2021 Southeast Idaho Elk

Wow, great read. Not sure how I missed this earlier. Congrats to you and your family on a great elk season.

    Rinella article.. CUT AND PASTED

I certainly see Matt's point and I take it into consideration, but for me, ego isn't the primary driving feature of my social media. I frankly really like seeing others hunts and I also equally enjoy sharing. This space to me is one giant campfire where we get to share hunting stories. Sure...

    Ever Mistake a Hunter for a Deer/Bear/Elk?

Up until last year, I would've said how could you ever have someone else in your scope, but now I realize there is some nuance to these things happening. I'll first tell you my story and then speak to what I suppose happens in many of these cases. Last year, the first Monday of our whitetail...

Idaho Non-Res tags go on sale today - 10 am MST

Not me. Oh well, on the losing side of random. Much better than preference points. When one door closes another opens. Off to learn another state. Anyone want to share some CO hotspots? Only kidding :)

Whitetail rut finally saw some action

Took 19 days into Nov., before I finally saw some chasing from the stand. I made the most of it.

    Maryland Bear hunt

You read that right, we do have bears in MD. In fact, this was the first one I've ever seen here.

    My son's first ducks!

Didn't get all the footage I wanted (dang GoPro), but was able to capture enough to tell the story. My son already asked to go again.

    My Idaho Archery Elk Hunt

I hope you guys enjoy. I had a great time again this year.

    Solo ID bull

That's a great bull. You should definitely get him aged by cementum annuli. Just save the front incisors from the bottom jaw. Congrats!

    Wearing Contacts in the Backcountry?

I wear two-week contacts all year, except when I'm out West hunting were I switch to one-a-days. My ophthalmologist recommended it. They don't add much weight and at the end of the day you throw them out. Wash your hands when you wake up (I use alcohol wipes) and put the new pair in.

Finally got myself a new bow

It had been 15 years so I figured it was time for a new bow. I shot most everything the bowshop had to offer that met my specs. I'm very happy with what I ended up with.

Favorite Edible Plants Of The Backcountry ?

Great thread. Just had many thimbleberries and some huckleberries while hiking in GNP with my son. We both didn't think much of the serviceberries.

    Alone Season 8

While I really liked both Biko and Theresa, I just didn't see what they did to survive in comparison to Clay. Granted it could be selective editing, but I basically watched Biko starve himself for 70+ days. He's an absolute gem of a person, but for me, the correct person won. I'm not interested...

    How Old Was that Animal?

This guy was 5.5 by cementum annuli. This herd bull was 7.5. This whitetail was 10.5! I love getting the age. Makes the story that much more interesting IMO.

    Anybody flown home with fish?

I've done it quite a few times. I have a soft-sided cooler (polar bear 24-pack) that will hold quite a bit of fish. If possible, I freeze the fish and use the cooler as a carry-on (no weight restrictions). If not above 50lbs I will sometimes check the bag as it stays pretty cool at 30k feet...

    Finally caught a Laker!

Probably has a lot to do with their diet. To be fair, I've been eating fresh tuna and tilefish, so not much by way of comparison there.

    Finally caught a Laker!

Thanks. Queen snapper and hogfish are the next two for me. There's a few elk hunting videos there that you'll probably be interested in. Hit the like button on the videos if you enjoy them. It helps them get more views on the Youtube algorithm.

    Finally caught a Laker!

Yeah, I'd have to agree. The first few bites weren't that bad, but I'll likely smoke the rest.

    Finally caught a Laker!

I've basically been wanting to catch a lake trout since I was a little kid. Finally scratched them off the fish bucket-list up in Vermont with my wife last week. They're only moderate tablefare though. I'm going to have to try smoking them.
