This question leads back to the absolute bottom line....... what makes a professional hunter, a professional???? (at least to the point of getting a professionals benefits- i.e."paid"... see post above").
I guess I should clarify what I meant about being "paid" in my original question. My implication of payment was NOT directed at you...per say. As a public land hunter, I realize you are in a TOTALLY different situation than most of the hunters we watch on tv. When I used the word "paid", I...
congrats on a great lookin buck! I'm about to go on my 2nd (ever) Montana muley (public land) hunt and have never been able to harvest so I that if/ when I do....it will (hopefully) look as good as yours!
Ok, so here's what I have been contemplating....... I'm (for the most part) a midwestern, bowhunter that has gained half a lifetime of experience from the thickets , hardwoods, and swamps of Michigan. In 2012, I was introduced to western hunting (Montana), and my "hunting" life changed forever...
Congratulations on an incredible trophy! I leave for Montana in a month (from Michigan), for public land mulies and its great to see deer like that are still around! Thanks for sharing.
All I can say is.... WOW! What an incredible elk. Congrats and thank for posting some amazing pics! I dream of the day I can have just an opportunity to harvest a trophy like that! Once again.... congratulations!
I know there probably is a long story to it..... and I dont intend for your to spend alot of your time answering this, but I was REALLY curious to know...... how does one become a professional hunter (that you can make a living doing) ???? I dont mean a guide, but one who gets "paid" to actually...
Well, I must not have seen this section because I have been a member for a couple of weeks now and haven't introduced myself properly. Sorry about that.... hello to all!
I have been hunting here (Michigan) all my life and REALLY enjoy the fall woods and sitting in a tree stand, thinking about...
I too was looking at pack info and scoured 20 or so pages (on this site) and got a descent idea about different pack reviews. One brand I didnt find hardly any info about was...... TENZING. Whats the general consensus about them??? The packs look descent, but do they perform in the real world...
Well... even though it was fishing (not hunting), dont experiment with rock bass! It was the worst ever. Took less than 5 minutes for my own stomach to give it back to me!
Thanks a bunch! Info I was hoping to get, as we will be just southwest of the breaks. My friends buddy (for who we are going to hunt with.... come November) is the FedEx driver for that area, so he sees alot; I just dont get to talk to him much. Thanks!
Central Montana..... at least thats where we are going to start, and play it by ear. Size wise..... who knows (muley 4x4 w/some mass) I suppose- but thats probably everyones answer as a minimum. My goal is to enjoy the hunt whether I'm successful or not. Whitetails are also an option, but not...
Thanks for the info. Yeah.... coyotes are definitely a problem and hopefully we can help take 1-2 out. Whatever the #'s are, theres nothing I can do about that, so I am just glad to be getting out there for another awesome trip, and learning all I can.
I did get my 1st point for deer, and 1 for elk this year... so Colorado is definitely on my radar! I gotta do more research as to what unit is the best for me, but at least i started the process. Thanks!
First off.....new member here and 1st post, so hello to all!! I look forward to getting educated here about Western Hunting, as I've spent my whole life (frustrated) in the highly pressured woods of Michigan.
I finally realized I need to expand my horizons and travel out of state to become a...
