As a guy approaching 30 it made me wish I could hit rewind and go back to childhood hunting and fishing trips, or it fast forward to being a care free old man full of wisdom to pass on. The second book was ok. Not near as good as the first but worth reading to follow up.
Sweetie has been steadily working good. Saturday the 26th she hunted good. I was by myself. Saw 2 but no luck One of them I smoked out of a tree with a little smoke bomb. The squirrel jumped out of a hole I didn't see and ran off with Sweetie hot on his tail. She treed him again on a skinny...
Another good hunt Tuesday morning. Squirrels seems to quit moving early that morning but when they were out Sweet was on them. In the first 4 of 5 trees I saw 4 squirrels and killed 3. After things slowed down she later went on to tree a beech tree full of holes but no holes the bottom to get...
Sweetie has had herself some good hunts recently. I’ve really come to prefer to hunt her on larger tracks of public land where we can work through open woods. She just seems to hunt better and faster rather than getting distracted on other stuff.
This weekend I headed to Starkville, MS to make...
I really think a more rural vet is better. There are plenty of places in urban areas that I'm sure are good with small animals. However when it comes to afterhours and emergencies they can be much more expensive and less responsive. Just my opinion from a couple incidents. But vets are like any...
Hopefully that's 2 less people to buy the XL items I want but are already sold out. Couldn't hurt to contact Camofire fire about the issue or look into what the return policy is.
Sound advice. She was bred to hunt and do her thing. Training is only guiding her in a manner that benefits both. Having a good handle and being commanded to not chase what’s natural has it’s benefits. My little dog hates a coon, and I want her to tree them. This morning there was one in the...
My girl friend has slowly got the hunting itch and now on her second season she wanted to kill a pig. I've focused on lining her up on places of family land by the house where we can get to quickly and she has a steady prop. Saturday evening we finally had a few pigs come out during day light on...
As much as I hate the canned hunt I’d rather buy a plastic one for the everyone else to see. Why spend $100+ a year to pretend to be hardcore when I can do the same for a one time $20 purchase?
A couple more good hunts and Sweetie is now back on the injured list. Just the way it goes I guess.
Sunday night was her first run since her foot healed. I don’t think she’ll be a combo dog and hunt at night. She doesn’t hunt with the same intensity at night, but I still bring her by the house...
I put a vest on my dog for the first time. Part of the reason was to keep her belly a little more protected from briars, she stays scratched up. But mainly to have orange on her now that it’s deer rifle season. Thought I bought the best of both and first time out a stick caught her under the...
Speaking of 4H though... A couple weeks ago when I was hunting this piece of public for primitive I was scouting the day prior with my .17hmr while looking for pigs. I hit a bottom and with all the sign I knew I was going to see pigs. Sure enough found a group but they winded me before I got...
Never heard of testing options. Curious of @wllm1313 ’s sous vide method. From the small boar I did save 2 back leg roasts for sous vide plus backstraps and tenderloins. Going to put a roast in tomorrow but haven’t figured exact what I want to do yet. Just got a sous vide the other day.
Found the bullet in the boar. Passed the front shoulder without hitting bone and lodged in bone on the opposite shoulder. Crazy considering it blew through the shoulder of the big sow and passed through the smaller boar. Tough animal.
