Mike Dean has IMO 2 of the best hunting songs ever written.
This song makes me want to go out and kill something. Hunting always on my mind. That’s what haunts me.
-Pickers eaters. Suck it up and eat what’s in front of you.
-People that feed their kids nothing but chicken nuggets, chips, crackers, bread, and maybe some other frozen or prepackaged meals. Therefore enabling the future obese picky eater.
-People that eat meat but don’t want to kill an...
Don’t worry too much about clothes for pigs. Earthen colors will work fine. This time of year it’s hot and I’d focus on being comfortable. Trading boots for tennis shoes ain’t a bad idea either even if you’re hunting in and around water.
I’ll add
1) People that buy pure bred working dog breeds and have them as a pet without work.
Currently live one that I couldn’t talk my gf out of buying when we were very early in our relationship. Covered a lot of obstacles and she’s a good dog but I still believe that dog should have had...
Freezer cleaning out and inventory. This time really going to keep up with the inventory list. Forgive me for the pieces of green in the photo. Ashley insists that freezer aren’t for just meat.
Going to need a few in me before I thaw this out and cook it.
While we were inside the pups were...
Ran Saturday morning again in Mississippi. Over all she did very well. I parked on the highway so walked her in about 200yds on the lead down a trail. I saw a squirrel cross ahead of us and figured that would be a good place to start. Cut her loose and she immediately when to barking and running...
In general pretty much anywhere in the deep south will have pigs. Some places more populated than others.
Meat quality varies. Some we caught last year near the end of a wet spring /early summer were almost as good as domestic pigs. Then as dry summer progressed pigs were noticeably leaner...
I’ve only knowingly came across two timber rattlers while in the woods. One I stepped up on a fallen log when and was about to jump down when I realize what was waiting at my landing. Could’ve been bad.
Both encounters were in June. I was excited to see a rattler and wanted to see it rattle...
Outing #9 for the spring squirrel season, and very happy with her performance. Did great ranging out, showed lots of drive checking tree to tree. Even ranged out farther that normal. And at 150yds when I was ready for her to comeback and work the opposite direction she came when called. I can’t...
I'm envious of this one. I don't kill as many now as I did at my old house, but I really wanted a pair mounted. Even had the drift wood picked out. But couldn't kill a hen that I thought wasn't too messed up, or have good plumage.
Spring season started on May 2nd and so far we have made 8 trips to the woods. I'd say an average of 4-5 trees per normal hunt. One evening she made 8 trees. A slow morning with IMO with little to no moving squirrels she made 2 trees. And one morning running in a low populated area hunt to get a...
Good luck with your feists. I see mine working in the woods and wish I had a second one with her. But having two dogs in the house, and working Sweetie is enough of a hand full for me. I'll try to catch up on some of our Spring hunts. Been a couple patient testing moments the past couple weeks...
Thought it'd be worth while to drop in a review of a shirt I bought.
I bought the "public land hunt like you own it shirt". I'll admit I'm cheap and it didn't catch my attention until I saw 25% off on Facebook. So I bit and opened it yesterday morning. I'm still wearing it as I type this. From...
Been after them with my young cur dog in Louisiana and Homochitto in MS. It’s mostly training with a gun. Seen 2 out of a bunch of trees and didn’t get a shot on either.
Once you learn what to look for you can make a stalk without first spotting a pig. Stalking, slip hunting, still hunting, it’s all good.
Good luck on your trip. Don’t be afraid to cover ground at a moderate pace. When you start seeing stuff that looks “piggy” then slow down.
This time of year...
