That's another sweet looking rig. You're lever action knowledge has definitely surpassed mine, so I'm not sure I could even begin to discuss a "dream" lever gun with you. Hopefully I'll learn more through research and the rest of the HT crowd to gain a better appreciation of old levers, single...
Even though I prefer the Marlin platform, I will say that I do love the 71. Great looking rifle. I've never shot or owned one, but I can't imagine they wouldn't perform as well as expected.
Beautiful buck and rifle, BrentD! Glad to see that old Marlin doing what it was intended to do.
You're right, I should have been more clear in my first post. Tube fed, repeating lever actions were what I had my mind set on, but I would love to hear about the single shot lever guns as well! I...
I know Winchester has the name recognition and Wild West heritage and the Savage 99 (which I should have included in my original post along with the BLR) has a cult following, but I'm a huge Marlin lever action fan. I love the side ejection and solid receiver top compared to the Winchesters...
Have any of you ever used or considered using a lever action while pronghorn hunting? I know the chamberings (aside from using a BLR) can create a bit of a handicap, but people kill pronghorns with archery gear and muzzleloaders every year, so it can't be too troublesome, all things considered...
Looking forward to hearing how it goes. That's sort of how I was with hunting pronghorn. Just wandering around sometimes because it felt like I was actively hunting instead of sitting in a treestand waiting for a deer to come by like here at home. On my last trip in 2018, I'm pretty sure I was...
What a coincidence, that's where I've lived my whole life. Small world. Great place to live
What are you hunting in Colorado? OTC or draw tags? I've been considering giving Colorado a try since they offer OTC tags, but I get nervous about lots of additional hunters.
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Brushcreek, I'm not sure I'm qualified to give advise concerning pronghorn, but I'd be more than happy to chat about it. We had a blast each time we went
JeffJ, I grew up in this area and it's drastically different from when I was a kid. I'm lucky enough to...
Hello all! I've listened to Randy mention this website for several years now. Spent a lot of time lurking, but thought it was time I step out of the shadows.
I've been on a handful of pronghorn hunts in Wyoming over the past 8 years or so, but I'm trying to do some research and build up some...
