Anybody else have spare scopes for thier Hunting Rifles

No spare rifle or spare scope.....I like living dangerously... Seriously though, I think I'd rather have a spare rifle someday. Funny thing is I have had good luck with my rifle/scope but three times I've been up the creek with my bow. The first time I broke my 30 yd pin on a branch the first...

    Meat Eater Cookbook

It seems to me that the Hank Shaw books are coming more from a culinary and food perspective and the Meat Eater books are more from a It was grand! Made me wish I had more shanks in the freezer!

    Meat Eater Cookbook

I have a copy. It's decent. Nothing terribly earth shattering but it is nicely done. I used it the first time I cooked Oso Buca.

    Should I change arrows?

Thanks for the input everyone. I talked with Brian at Day Six and I'm going to give his setup a try. 350 spine, standard insert/outserts, 4 fletch (he does his 2 degree RH helical which is my preference) 26.5 inch cut which should give me a 27.5-28" arrow all told and a built weight of 520-530...

    CO leftover list is available

I picked up a 3rd rifle cow tag. I opened the login page about 40 minutes before 9:00 and waited in the digital queue until a few minutes before 9.

    Should I change arrows?

Wanted to throw this out to the crowd to see what folks think. I've been shooting the same arrow for a while now and am on the third bow since coming up with this build. What I have now is: Gold Tip Hunter XT, 340 spine Factory insert with a 50 gr weight VPA 3 blade broadhead - 150 gr Q2I 3.0...

Colorado native BRAND new to hunting.. I have oh so many questions

Welcome! Buy some good boots that fit well and put as many miles on them as you can before the season start. Once you're out there hunting slow down and open you eyes and ears. Take the time to sit and watch. I spent the first few seasons I hunted walking way too fast. Remember, you're not...

Son needs a rifle for deer hunting

At this point I'd base the hair splitting between 6.5, .243 and 7mm-08 on ammo or components you can reasonably find. They're all good but I went through a heck of time last winter when I bought a 6.5CM for my 12 year old son to use on his first deer hunt this fall. I did find some factory...

    Maps

I always carry a compass. I have a map most of the time. The unit I hunt Elk in every year I don't carry a map for anymore. Things look pretty familiar now.....but the compass, always. Too easy to get turned around.

Favorite Edible Plants Of The Backcountry ?

I'm in the front range of Colorado and we have them around most places here. It may be that the name is used for more than one subspecies.

Favorite Edible Plants Of The Backcountry ?

I'm a big fan of lemonade berries to suck on during those hot summer hikes.

CO 2nd draw stats are posted.

I was 1 for 3 in the second draw. One was a long shot and the other two were moderate. All in all I am happy to have a deer tag in hand now and OTC for elk is fine for me this year.

    Colorado 2nd Draw?

I received unsuccessful notifications for elk and antelope this afternoon so it looks like things are rolling through quicker now.

    Bucket list.....

Mountain Goat. Seems kind of pedestrian after reading the list above ;). Caribou is a good one too though. To me that's as much about the terrain and experience as the animal.

    Cheyenne Wy eats

Blacktooth Brewing has a place in Cheyenne now. It's the farthest south you can buy Saddle Bronc Brown.....

    Bronco in person!!

I saw one on the road last weekend as well. Wasn't sure what it was but figured it out after a bit. Not sure what I think about them yet but hey, at least they figure out that the rear wheel wells need to fit big tires.....unlike the old ones that required a sawzall modification ;)

    Camp knife

My EDC is a Kershaw...no idea of the model. The steel is OK but I like the one-handed opening. I kind of like having a middle of the road knife in my pocket because I tend to mis-use it on occasion.

Right Handed but Left Eye Dominant

All those coaches and researchers that know about eye dominance probably know more than most of us.... I suggest to anyone who prefers to use their non-dominant eye due to hand dominance do some reading on eye dominance. The dominant eye is more than just preference. There are more neural...
