    Denver area bird hunters

I've switched from hunting in CO to just making trips to South Dakota. A week on the grasslands is equal to years of hunting in Colorado.

    Shooting from a tripod

My son and I use a Slik 635 with a Leophoto LH25 with a huntpal v yoke. Works pretty well and keeps the weight down. I'd like to try an actual saddle clamp but this was an experiment last year for my son who was having trouble using shooting sticks accurately.

New Inreach Plans effective December 1st

Yes, mine is from 2016. Still works fine though.

New Inreach Plans effective December 1st

For those of us running older devices I bet dollars to donuts that if we cancel our service they won't allow us to re-activate an old device!

    Cats Aren't Trophies

There was a decent opinion piece in the Daily Camera opposing the ballot issue (https://www.dailycamera.com/2024/09/04/opinion-krista-l-kafer-colorado-ballot-measures-again-pit-front-range-voters-against-rural-colorado/).

    Tesla Cyber truck

I saw one parked in the alley the other day but then I realized it was a dumpster.

Anybody Upgrade Their Delorme inReach With The Garmin Offer?

Has anyone taken advantage of the https://explore.garmin.com/Promotions/Upgrade2024? offer? The big catch for me is the "your device will be permanently deactivated" clause. It seems like they are really pushing to get all the old devices off the network.

    UPS sucks

It seems to depend on where you are. UPS for me in Colorado is pretty pathetic. I'll get a delivery window notification and then they will change it two or three times in the course of a couple of days. The last time I got notified of a deliver window on Monday for a Wednesday delivery that...

If you are hunting the eastern part of the unit (i.e. the Telluride end) there is good camping at Woods Lake. If you are in the middle of the unit there are plenty of areas to set up dispersed camp in the national forest. I don't have any experience camping in the western third of the unit but...

    Inreach - which one

Even if my phone was suddenly capable of texting via satellite I would still carry my stand alone device.....same reason I still carry a compass and know how to read a paper map.

    Need excellent quality hunting clothes?

I've been using a pair of military surplus wool pants for years. They are "German Officer Pants" or something like that. They look like a pair of dress pants but they are perfect....and they look nice too so if I want to stop by a nice restaurant on the way home I won't be out of place :)

New 30-06. Thinking about trying copper.

I'd look at the Barnes LRX as well.

New 30-06. Thinking about trying copper.

I've been using the 168 gr TTSX with good results. According to their factory load data it is going plenty fast at 400 yards still.

Call your Senators! CPW Commission Confirmation Vote - Delayed Again! Now Tues, 12 Mar!

Absolutely! Send those letters! It's not like we can send too many! Even though I suspect my senator is a non-starter when it comes to anything related to pro-hunting, pro-firearm or proper management of wildlife but I still send him emails (not that I ever get a response either)!

    Healthy bread; What is there?

I use a Mockmill 200 and buy 50 lb bags of hard red winter wheat from a local bulk supplier. Nothing but flour, water and salt in my weekly bread. I feed my leaven in the morning, mix my pre-ferment in the evening and then mix up my final dough in the morning and have fresh bread after lunch...

    Healthy bread; What is there?

Just make your own. Buy stone ground whole wheat and a bag of instant yeast. Might take a few tries to get it where you want but you'll never go back to store bought. You don't need a mixer or anything fancy. Once you get the hang of it make your own sourdough leaven and then you don't even...

    Barnes lrx question

I shoot the 168 TTSX out of my 30-06. No complaints.

    Axle to Axle Advantages?

I've owned both. I am more accurate with my shorter bow than I was with the longer. I have a short draw length and I think that makes a difference.

10+ Years of Use, What Worked

I forgot to mention my Outdoor Research gaiters. Solid! I don't really know how old they are ....15 years, maybe 20. My Ramer backcountry skis and poles. Probably never wear out.

10+ Years of Use, What Worked

Still using my Gregory pack that I bought used in college.... let's just say that makes it well over 10 years old. I'm ready to replace it but it just won't wear out Patagonia McMurdo down jacket. Not sure how much over 10 years it is but I'll buy another when it comes time. One of the best...
