Has anyone else had an issue getting a zero with a 7mm-08 Alpine Mountain rifle? I was starting to get a decent group, but when I bumped bullet weight up to 140 grain handloads, my bullet placement was all over the place, and very inconsistent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have considered it, but 140 grain bullets seem to be that intersection between speed and weight. I'm not afraid to try new premium bullets since this caliber has a smaller margin of error than others. Realistically I would like to be as close as possible, but I want to be comfortable with some...
Alright guys, I have a very accurate handload using 140 grain TTSX bullets and big game powder in my 7mm-08. After running all the data in a ballistics calculator, it shows that the velocity is 2140 fps and an FPE of 1424 at 350 yards. Would this still be an acceptable range based on the data or...
Joel, Zebulon Pike on the site is from Kentucky and has expressed some interest in getting a chapter going. He doesn't post here much but he is on quite a bit. I think his post is on page 3 or 4 of the public lands section. Another Kentucky guy and I had expressed interest at the time of his post.
I imagine if I purchase a set, they would do the same. Which is why I'm not quite prepared to spend $300 on rain gear. Most of my hunting plans I have are early to mid October in Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences on using this system for their raingear? Based on what I'm reading it's super light, waterproof and breathable. Right now my thought is to use this system mainly to stay dry while glassing, I'm not sure it could handle the rigors of a...
Just a heads up that dvor.com has several Mystery Ranch packs on sale, including the Marshall and Metcalf, each at about $200 off MSRP. Best prices I have ever seen.
Congrats! There is a lot of info on the fish and wildlife website as far as harvest rates, public access, etc. I would recommend calling the local biologists for where you want to hunt.
Based on some of the research I had been doing, I would put in for one of the limited access areas, almost all have 100% sucess rates based on previous years' info. The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website has a lot of info on success rates and access areas. As a resident who didn't get drawn, I'm...
I found some super clearance items on eBay. They are being sold as new by a company called its on sale. Could it be fake? Is there any way to tell? Mountain Mimicry is the pattern and the tags say sitka mountain gear.
I picked up a pair of the ascent pants. For most of my other gear my strategy is comparable materials at a better price, not camo pattern. My goal is to have a good base set and replace as funds become available.
Based on everyone's comments and my own research, it looks like I need the...
Thanks for all the comments guys. It was truly a unique turkey hunt on the last day of season. I changed strategies from setting up a spot to call in a bird at first light to a spot and stalk approach starting at mid morning. Luckily this guy gobbled before I rounded a stand of trees and ran...
Thanks guys. Like I said, I'm really looking for something tough not necessarily a name brand. I can be hard on hunting clothes, which is what drew me to Sitka, especially their pants with the reinforced knee and seats.
After 4 years of chasing turkey, I finally connected skill, luck, and opportunity to harvest a great bird with an 11 inch beard and one inch spurs. I think I'm hooked for life.
Being the flatlander I am, most of my hunting clothing is not designed to be out for multiple days in rocky, cold, and harsh environments. I am very hard on hunting clothing and would like to hear the forums opinions on the best clothing for out west. Right now I am looking at Sitka and...
