This thread and the lack of discretion shown by many towards others is disappointing. Shameful actually, in most cases.
I was hopeful there would be a bit more basic decency among this group.
Like the problem of gun violence, any effective solution will have many different aspects which will likely offend everyone in some way. This is the rub that impedes progress.
Also, oversimplifying the problem to a single aspect of what is happening (ie assault weapons) drives division and...
The seat can make a huge difference. Cheaper kayaks typically have very basic (and fixed position) seats. The seat in my hobie outback is fantastic and makes long days easy. Stability also matters. I can stand in mine with no problem. This is not possible in all kayaks.
I also prefer a sit...
After some consideration of my comments here, maybe I’m just trying to fix stupid…and making excuses for people to not take responsibility for their own actions.
I retract my previous statements. Let’s see more examples of stupid people encounters with wild animals. 🤪🤣
This is funny. Right after posting this (above) I saw a piece on CBS this morning about a woman with 35 animals living in harmony…in her house. They also showed a loin, a bear and a tiger all living together as “friends”. No discussion of how artificial this behavior is because of the man made...
It’s sad really. The general public really is ignorant about wildlife and nature. What many people see on tv where programs personify animals and leave out all the “ugly truth” about how wild animals survive and die leads to gross misunderstandings and ignorance. Unfortunately, these same people...
Yep…good idea fairy visits my house regularly. I just finished a paver patio myself. Did it all by hand over 3 days….my ambition got the better of me on that one.
Spend some time making your own map of the unit and the areas you plan to hunt. Watch Randy’s digital scouting videos (and others as well) and mark key terrain features and get a sense of elevation changes along your planned entry and exit.
I can’t recommend onx maps enough for planning, and...
I’ve been looking to take some more advanced classes for first aid. Really looking for something that could help when handling problems in the field. Im not looking to become a certified paramedic by any means. Aside from basic CPR I’ve not seen anything what was included in my military training...
Agree 100%. I was there in Sept last year and the SxS and other ORV’s that came in on the weekend were nuts. Lots of elk and lots of fun. It is easy to get away from that tho, if you are willing to do some walking.
This is so interesting to me. This thread is also timely after listening to the second of the series of 5 podcasts that Big Fin sent out today. I‘m sure the podcasts aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this thread really captures what was discussed.
From a motorcycle ride to colorado. RMNP I believe…
I wish the mountain West wasn’t so far west. I’d spend more time there if I could.
Like others here, I’m also reviewing other photos from hunting trips to MT, CO, WY and NM after reading this thread. Thanks to everyone for the contributions...
I’m sure it’s also hard to find elk on the OR coast. I’ve heard from folks who hunt there confirm it. Maybe it’s the topography…not sure. Here is a pic I took of one area last week…for those of who may have never been there. I’m sure you can imagine what elk hunting there must be like 😳🤣.
I would not do it. Safety…#1 and #2. You need at least a 3/4 ton truck if you are towing that kind of weight. You don’t need a diesel to get it done…but you do need a heavy\super duty pickup.
We had the same experience last month hog hunting. No hogs or sign on the 1k+ acre property. We should have had a back up plan like we do when elk hunting. This was simply access to private property, no guide. Hog hunting can be an absolute blast if you are free to roam and spot & stalk...
