Hi Lamdil,
i dont think these shots are from where you think. these areas have always been blasted as long as ive been here. For the roaded areas youve told me you used to hunt i believe you and i saw the tailend of those good times for myself, but that was back when we had ALOT less people...
someone picked up on this on another site - as cited in the "The Future of Hunting and the Shooting Sports", p. 53. Well, here is what the study actually said:
"As instructive as examining the factors and scenarios to which hunters positively respond is examining the factors and scenarios that...
Last night i took the time to read through the study report that was linked in the initial letter endorse by RMEF, SCI, etal. Its actually not too bad a report, the authors of that anti-roadless letter are actually making a claim about lack of motorized access that really isnt isn’t highlighted...
I remember he saying either it takes paperwork and money or maybe he cant in wilderness. I see other shows filming in wilderness so maybe it's not off limits. I bet there's no problem in wsas
Ben Lamb, those areas arent worth fighting for. I enjoyed some of those places while i was young, now that im getting older and lazier i want them roaded to accomodate me. To hell with the next generation of young people and their need for wild places.
I wrote my letter to RMEF today...
Here are some googleearth shots of our "multiple use" ares in the bitterroot. Now if we can only get RMEFs assistance makeing our roadless forests look like this, we will be in elk heaven!
#1 is southeast of Hamilton, MT
#2 is southern West Fork Bitterroot near Painted Rocks, MT
#3 west of...
The problem with evaluating elk hunting in wilderness is that you have to include those big places like the bob marshall complex and the beartooth where there are zillions of outfitters shooting all the elk with rifles during rut.
And then you have wyoming who has actually does lock...
LamDildo,
Your right, particulary about Darby natives. I know there are solid NRA members including yourself. However i think there is a good number of extremists in NRA that could give a rip less about wildlife or habitat, so who the hell is NRA to get involved in land management?
Buzz, do you know where i can find out whether the FS has recommended the WSAs in my area for wilderness?
I searched my the local website but could not find anything and am waiting for a call back from the local public affairs guy.
i carry a taurus tracker .41 mag in titanium. very light to carry and I hope its enough if i ever run into a bear. the new .44 mag lightweights are nice.
if its heavy your less likely to be carrying it when you need it in the backcountry.
Some friends and i have each talked with individuals by phone at the missoula office.
It is obvious to me that RMEF has been taken over by people who would be an enemy of roadless elk habitat and that their personal ideals have taken first priority over the Mission Statement of RMEF.
Ive been...
Every point you made is excellent except i wonder about this one....
over here the Allen Mountain WSA, the Stony Mountain WSA and the Blue Joint WSA are areas where you can spend weeks of backcountry hunting without having to compete the huge outfitting industry in the wilderness areas. i...
This will be a straightforward decision for me. If RMEF supports HR1581 i will call and cancel my membership immediately and give the money to the Montana Wildlife Federation and/or the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers instead.
yeah the old "if i could just drive my my jeep/ATV/fatass in there crowd" that isnt smart enough to grasp that fact that once them and their motorized buddies have access it will be just like the crap they already drive around in. The NRA is expected to be full of slobs, but the RMEF? wow this...
Too bad this is Forest Service also not just BLM. The areas i hunt elk and deer are mostly WSAs. In montana much of the designated wilderness is for the most part set aside for the outfitting industry and high pressure early rifle hunting and the roaded areas are for the ATV hunters. The WSAs...
