How did this hunt turn out? My dad had a cow tag this past season and we were in the elk every day. We saw a few decent bulls too. The thick fog made the hunt difficult but it was still a successful hunt.
In my profession we refer to people like that grasshoppers. They come, they eat and they leave. Rural EMS has a very high turnover rate. They get some experience and some knowledge of the industry and they leave for the big city for the same pay but more action and leave us rural guys in a tight...
Hi there! I grew up in this unit and spent a lot of time in Magdalena and Datil. I never hunted elk in this unit but sure would like to. I no longer live in this unit or NM for that matter but applied for hunts this year (2021) hoping to get lucky and draw any NM tag. This happens to be one of...
How did this hunt turn out for you? I lived just north of this unit when I was a kid. Haven't been back in almost 12 years and haven't hunted it in 15.
I am thinking about applying for this hunt and several others in close proximity to this unit. I would love to hear your feedback on this hunt...
I started on a recurve. The first animal I took with a bow was with that recurve. Just a big stringy jack rabbit at about 15 yards. I was probably about 12 when I did that.
Hi I'm new to Hunt Talk and am looking for some insight into NM, especially unit 13. I grew up in the south eastern part of this unit, down in Socorro. I'm hoping to do my first elk hunt in NM since I moved some 15 years ago. I applied for the early archery hunt this thread is about but am...
Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm new to hunt talk and was searching for some information on NM unit 13. I just finished applying for several hunts in NM as a non-resident, this being one of them. I grew up in this unit in the south east corner down around Socorro but never hunted. Looking...
Hi everyone,
Thank you all for welcoming to you hunt talk forum. I am excited to be here and hear all your great stories and bounce ideas off of you all.
A little about my self. I am a Colorado native born and raised in the San Juan mountains. My family has been farming and ranching here since...
I agree! It's like winning the lottery sometimes, you might be super close but still don't get it. I don't get mad I just look at it like hunting or fishing you can't catch or shoot them all, but when you do it's very rewarding!
A NM bull is one of my dream hunts. Hopefully if everything works out and I get lucky enough to draw a tag next year that dream will come true. Idaho and Montana are on the last as well.
I love hearing or reading success stories like this as it always builds the motivation and desire up for...
This bull showed up for the first time late October and is still in velvet. His right antler is just a club that hangs down over his eye. If he shows up next year he will be my target bull for the season. I love the freaks since they are so unique and rare.
The only time I have been harassed while hunting was while I was on private property. It happens about 6 years ago, but anyway I was out hunting private property and this truck drives up and blocks my truck in and starts honking his horn. So I hike down to my truck to see what's going on, when I...
