I'm a CO resident and hunt every year but still build points. I don't know that I would build points as a non-resident though. As a resident I can draw a quality (opportunity not trophy) hunt every year as a second choice while building points for a quality (trophy) hunt in 6-8 years. I haven't...
Welcome to HT! Montana and Idaho are where I would choose to live if I could just pack up and leave. CO, in my opinion, has become way to unfriendly to hunters and ranchers. I happen to be both.
Welcome. A similar experience brought me to HT. I had visited the site a few times over the years but after deciding to commit to a hunt outside my home state I started doing a lot of researchand spent a lot of time reading articles and post here.
The members of this group have great intel and...
So......how much inventory if left? Lol I saw lots of posts about this store having tons of ammo today on several different facebook pages. I bet that is no longer the case! There are several online retailers I check daily for the ammo I need. Got lucky and found a box of what I've been looking...
I'm in the same situation as you. The way I see it it's either a short term savings account or a well invested adventure! Either way I'll be pleased with the outcome.
Best of luck to you!
Welcome! I visited Hunt Talk for a few years before I ever committed to creating a profile. With my current job I finally have the finances and the time to spend hunting more. So with that my passion/obsession has had me spending a lot more of my down time reading up on others experiences. Hunt...
Always glad to know another EMS provider from any walk of life. Doesn't matter where you go the job or how you do the job, it's a true brotherhood. I've been fortunate enough to serve the community that raised me while raising my family in that same community.
Working a community where you know...
I live just the other side of the CO border, just outside Antonito. My dad lives in southern NM so unit 50, 51 and 52 are good middle ground areas for us. I apply for NM but not for either of those units, I'll just hunt my side of the border for the same or better odds at a much cheaper rate. If...
As a non-resident I won't hunt this unit. The price tag for a license is not worth the less than marginal odds. For a resident who can get a late season cow tag this is a money in the bank unit. My dad has had a cow tag several times for this unit and there hasn't been a trip yet without seeing...
That's a big if! I've been applying for 7 years and nothing yet. Some of the hunts I put in for have the best draw odds for a non-resident, around 10% no luck yet!
I've never hunted Pronghorn, with any luck this will be my first year to draw a tag. Several across three states if I'm super lucky! If that happens I'll be sure to buy a lottery ticket!
I had a friend draw this unit for the muzzleloader tag. He hunted above timberline and was able to connect on a heavy 6x6. I haven't heard what he actually ended up scoring but he is a beautiful bull.
I live just on the other side of the mountain range in the San Luis Valley. We see some decent...
