Welcome! Fellow CO hunter here.
This group has plenty of content to read in your leisure time, and on occasion some rather heated debates! Most definitely worth being apart of!
Welcome aboard! Great introductory post and a great first Elk!
NM is a hard tag to draw and an even more expensive tag to purchase if you didn't draw.
Any luck in getting a tag this fall?
.50 cal all day long. I very wise man told me once "Fear the man with only one gun as he will know how to use it". Everyone hunts for a different reason and with their own objective. My approach to muzzleloader hunting is I want a bit more reach than archery but a lot more knockdown power. I can...
Sorry, I don't know that I will be of much help. Like I started it's been 12+ years since I've hunted down there. A lot can change in that span of time including my memory. Lol sorry I am of no help.
I really enjoyed my elk camp last year! I used a Clark 4 seasons jungle hammock, under quilt and a light weight bag. I had to keep my bag unzipped to keep from roasting to death!
I got pretty lucky in the area I chose to setup camp. There were fresh ripe raspberries and strawberries everywhere...
I've never wanted a NM tag more than I do this year. My father was a NM resident and I a Colorado resident. Last year was the last time I will ever get to hunt with my father. Unfortunately Covid took him in December.
The fall of each year was our time. We would spend weeks together chasing as...
You're absolutely right! Although if I find a way to stock more of them they should be in a greater abundance to stalk next year! 😂🤣😂 Thanks for calling me out on spelling. Lol
The wonky elk survived the winter and remaining hunting seasons last year. Funny thing is it showed up on camera almost a year to the date!
The elk got bigger and weirder.
Hi all,
This is my first hunt recap write-up. I've really enjoyed reading all of your stories and experiences and wanted to give back.
So here is the tale or my 2021 CO pronghorn antelope hunt. This was also my first experience hunting the infamous speed goat of the plains.
I've been building...
Looks like Melrose NM. Though I haven't been that way in 12 years. Though I am sure there are many small towns throughout the west that have this look and feel.
I grew up in that unit. Haven't hunted in 15 years but still have friends that live there and get lucky enough to draw a tag fairly consistent. Some great bulls come out of they unit every year. Best of luck! Can't wait to read your follow up posts!
Good afternoon everyone!
I broke 3 bones in my foot a little over 8 weeks ago. I ended up with a total of 5 fractures across the bones in the arch of my left foot. I was completely non-weight bearing for the first 6 weeks and then in a walking boot for the other 2 weeks. I am currently walking...
"Remember no one on their death bed ever said I wish I worked more. Spend time with your family, watch your kids grow and enjoy life while you are still able to live it."
I've made a few trips up to Platoro and Summitville this last week. I saw a lot of elk down low but nothing above 9,000 feet. The lower elevation is most definitely a lot greener and vegetation rich right now than the higher elevation. Last year at this time we were very dry and still very cold...
