    Lets see your fishing boat!

I’ve had this little rig about 23 years now and found the harbor freight trailer at a yard sale a couple year back. Do all boat we take on local rivers and lakes. Fun to look at all the nice equipment here!! Time to go fishing !!

Elk Caliber and Bullet Choice - 2024

I picked up some Speer 172 grain Impact bullets over the winter to try in my Tikka 30-06. Looks like they have good short and long range performance. Can’t wait to get it out and see what they do with some IMR 4350.

What was your first big game rifle, and do you still have it?

Mine is a 98 Mauser my Grandfather sporterized for me about 1980. I remember hanging out with him in his shop looking at all the parts soaking in solvent and the handmade stock hanging with countless coats of tongue oil. I was 11 or 12 at the time and will pass it down to my grandson one of...

    Lever Monday...post em up

I think the Marlin’s are just about the perfect lever rifle.. This is an early 90’s JM 45-70 with a 3x Leupold and cool older Burris mounts I found at a gun show.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

I Glued 3 pieces of 1” walnut together and carved a neat stock for my old clunky custom 110 savage in 6.5x55 . Makes for a good conversation piece at the gun range.

    .338-06 Build Completed

Nice rifle there ! The 338-06 is a versatile and efficient cartridge and 30-06 brass everywhere. We put one together a few years ago in the garage with a Midway barrel and a clunky Mauser action. 225 gr. SST Bullets and IMR 4064 Good velocity and accurate ! That will be a nice Mtn rifle, mine...

    Calling mature bulls early rut

That is something else and thinking about all the crazy things I’ve had happen at the last few seconds I will agree, I’m just not anchored and set up at that critical point. Interesting what you had to say about the mature bulls and how random that can unfold. That’s cool and a great detailed...

    Calling mature bulls early rut

That sounds very logical and with some good pre season scouting and pinning down where some good bulls may be, those first few attempts might really pay off !

    Calling mature bulls early rut

Good point .. I don’t know that.. I just may have the opportunity to possibly entice a 6 1/2 yr old bull in a particular hunting district. Also like ccc23454 said there is “no trick” just try to get a read on the elk that day and proceed accordingly.

    Calling mature bulls early rut

Ok guys I like it ! Very interesting .. I agree old seasoned bulls have heard it all and I will really need to take into consideration the timing of the rut and my approach. In past hunts I have thought it may have been a deal breaker hunting alone and not having a caller behind me. Hey thanks...

    Calling mature bulls early rut

Hello HT members, I would appreciate any experience or advice you have calling older bulls in early bow season. I’ve had decent luck getting some elk in 30 to 40 yards but never had a good opportunity to take the shot. I know this is like asking for a map to the buried treasure but thought it...
