Sportsman’s Warehouse acquired by Great American Outdoors Group

That's exactly how I feel. RIP O.G. Cabela's... I really like Sportsmans and worried about this one

WY Try for a Bull/A Hunt for Bill/Late Season Cow

Fun to read and I like the spontaneous hunt. I have the refuge permit for this coming weekend, regretting not bringing my muzzleloader!

Why my pack sucks: Kifaru, Stone Glacier, Exo, Seek, Mystery Ranch, Kuiu, etc.

Mystery Ranch Selway - overall, I really like the tri-zip and general simplicity of this bag. My complaint is with the location of the zipper for the pocket on the pack's lid makes this pocket inaccessible if the two top bag straps are connected to the frame. You have to pop these two straps...

    Reducing caliber mixups

My dad fired one of my 270win rounds through his 30-06 when I was a kid. These two rounds do look very similar. The round went off alright but something obviously happened as soon as it left the barrel. He was using the hood of the truck as a rest to check zero and the bullet tore a hole in the...

    Dove opener.

In addition to never more than 4 birds, you'd also never see many hunters after the first week. Hopefully this spreads out the opportunity the fields can be hunted for. I'll stay tuned...

    Dove opener.

Speculation... but likely so the birds have the morning to feed without getting hammered. The public dove fields get hammered pretty hard and after the first few days are usually shot up or birds move out.

    WOW WYOMING LAND GRAB

    Release Life

Mine start to show wear and I replace before my strings. I tie nock points which makes it really easy to replace D-Loop without changing tune.

    I’m selling my hunting truck.

I couldn't believe it. The underside of my 14 year old truck looks like new

    I’m selling my hunting truck.

Good one! My 06 Tacoma frame rusted out and they recalled it a couple years ago. Completely replaced the frame for free and gave me a loaner for 3 months while they waited on parts. Insanity! Cost them more than the truck was worth for sure.

    Problems with Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's

They are the Walmart’s of the outdoor space. The merger was a serious bummer as I really liked the old cabelas

Dove Decoys - yes or no

I put my mojo on top of a 10' piece of PVC. Also have a cross piece as well I clip the static decoys to. The mojo works great early dove season.

Things I Wish I'd known about Elk Hunting

It’s a mental grind! Especially when you don’t see anything for a couple days it’s easy to get down. I felt good gear wise & physically but keeping your head in it can be tough. This season I’m bringing an index card with a message to remind myself to keep focused and not get discouraged and...

    Stuff my Hunting dog ATE.

My lab ate most of a raw chicken tonight. I had de-spined it and put it on the counter. Had to send an email and come out and the dog had gone to town.

Unit 11 Wyoming cow elk hunt

Lots of public, no wilderness. Lots of FS roads throughout so you're not going to be needing to go "deep". I've hunted in a unit nearby and from what I could see 11 is similar - thick and lots of blowdown. Should be plenty of elk when you find pockets. Good luck!

If I only knew this when I first started backpacking....

I did this last backcountry hunt and it worked well. I only bring a couple nights of mtn house and the rest are dehydrated meals I made beforehand and rehydrate in ziplock. The only thing I didn't like was when there was a minor leak in the bag (pinhole from being stuffed in pack for a week)...
