Like @AlaskaHunter , I de-cap first as well to keep my dies clean. I don't find it to be that much more work and decapping dies are cheap.
Here is my process:
Decap
sonic clean
resize
tumble
final brass prep
I am far from an expert reloader and I don't do huge quantities, mostly just hunting...
Hunting: DIY caribou in AK with my dad.
or
Being a beach bum in the national parks of American Samoa with my wonderful bride.
Either would be awesome and ard at the top of my list currently.
My passat tdi regularly gets over 50 mpg, mostly when my wife drives.😁
My 3/4 ton suburban with the 454 gets about 11, good thing gas is cheap right now and it has a 42 gallon tank.
A good website to research mpg is Fuelly, they have an app for your phone you can use to track your mpg. I...
I use it in one of my 243's and am in the process of testing it in my 270. I tried it in my 300 but it preferred 4831SC. Look it up on the load data site on Hodgdon, they have loads for everything under the sun, they just don't tell you what was most accurate like the bullet manuals do.
For the price range you are in I would be looking at nightforce, zeiss, meopta meostar, and swfa hd. Since it is going on a lightweight tikka, i would go meopta or zeiss.
Randi, I have had only marginal experience with the scopes you mention, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. I have been furiously researching scopes myself with a more modest budget of 500.
Unlike much of what you find across the net, I am far more concerned with durability and zero...
Mine is 25 years old, I bought it when I was 11. Just curious, what did you pay for yours? Is it a boatpaddle stock like mine? These boatpaddle stocks seem to go for big money on gunbroker.
I have a couple of items I am selling to finance the obsession.
First, my Ruger M77 Mark II "boatpaddle" stainless synthetic rifle in 243 win. Trigger has been tuned to 3.5 lbs by an excellent gunsmith. This was my first rifle and it pains me to sell, but I'm switching everything to left...
Brent, do some research on kamado grills if you like charcoal and wood. I love my big green egg but they are pricey. They were the only ones I could get local and our local dealer make me a hell of a deal on it. Kamado Joe, Vision, and Primo are also nice kamado grills.
I strongly recommend trying a Komato grill if you haven't. They definately aren't for everyone, but I love my big green egg. I use mine about 3-4 nights per week outside the winter. I still have a propane grill, but I rarely use it. The best burgers and steaks I have ever eaten have come off...
I'll throw my 2 cents in on the hot tents as we have a few in our giant herd of tents. As @wllm1313 says, they are not magical unicorns, but I like ours in certain situations. The teepee style one we have is an old Ruta Locura Pentamid I scored of craigslist for cheap. It was imported by Ruta...
I handload for mine. I shoot 80 gr TTSX in the model 70 and the 85 gr TSX in the ruger. I wish the twist was tighter so I could shoot the 95 LRX for critters and the 105 for practice.
Huh, the left hand must be a recent addition, I looked at these a while back and it was only right hand at the time. That pretty much settles it, I like to keep my money in montana.
My budget is whatever my wife lets me get away with. ;)
In reality, probably somewhere around 2k without enraging my wife. This will likely be a here and there build, buying pieces when I see a good deal.
I do love the 243, I already have 2, one will go down the road to help fund this build...
