Congrats on the tag! My experience is limited to the last couple of years and mostly southern Idaho but I’ve seen plenty of activity first week of October. Even seen bulls chasing cows and responding to calls at the end of October. Photo below was taken on October 1st last year with a bill...
Not sure why this took off again a year later but okay. Never even saw a bull in the unit, F&G cut the tags in half this year. Still a fun hunt despite losing a week to a broken down truck. I wish the best of luck to those that follow with their hunts.
I’m wondering the same thing but honestly I only get two weeks off for work and already used one for the September hunt. I m saving the rest for the 12th-16th because my deer and elk tags will line up with the hunt too. If that fails I’ll hunt weekends until the season ends in November
Nothing yet, went out the first week of September with my brother and dad. Long story short, wildfires and a broke. Down truck turned a 7 day hunt into 3 days. Our party did see 6 cows during that time including one at 20 yards. Heading back up for a few days from the 12-16, hoping I don’t miss...
I'll be honest I got about two pages into this thread and was good. Just leave my post and scoot. My parents are farmers, made too much for student aid, and too little to help out with school. I worked my way through college and still have a crap ton of debt as does my wife (i'm a therapist...
I was also curious about mnt moose habitat, I don’t mean to hijack the thread but what about high mnt lakes? Do they need to have any certain food sources? This one I hiked to yesterday doesnt have much aquatic vegetation.
I've had a couple offers but i'm honestly wary of borrowing peoples stuff. I don't think i'd enjoy the hunt as much worrying about someones rifle. I've also a lot more practice with the 25-06 and was hitting steel at 300 yesterday. With the unit the way it is though I doubt I'll have a shot over...
I have, i'm honestly struggling to find components. I did pick up a few boxes of hammers but didn't load any yet just because im new to it and wanted to be cautious with the load data. My barrel also has the stand 1:10 twist rate so i'm not sure if it would stabilize the bullets. I still have a...
My wife and I are getting priced out of Idaho already after only 3 years and have pretty much given up on buying our first house. Both of us are professionals and only have a little debt (student loans and what’s left on my truck, paid off two credits cards, most of her student loans and a car...
I can’t find any either, I’ve looked everywhere for .257s. I was thinking about calling nosler and asking (not sure if they’d be able to give an answer). Same thing even gunbroker doesn’t have any.
I got the same thing on my moose tag. My card was charged the correct amount but my app shows the non resident price and gave me a heart attack. Did you ever get an answer?
Thanks again everyone for the replies, I appreciate the insight. I think I’m going to stick with the 25-06, watch my shots, and reload my own rounds with 115gr or 120 gr noslers or Barnes. Was also offered a 308 in a savage model 99 as back up as well (love those rifles but I can practice more...
Thanks for the recommendations. I have someone offering to let me borrow their rifle but honestly its a really nice gun and I can see myself dropping it or something happening. I considering the 30-06 or 308. Thanks again everyone!
So I drew a Shiras tag for Idaho this year and only have one rifle, a 25-06. From what I’ve read, recommendations for moose general start in the 7mm or 30cal range and go up from there. I want to be ethical in my rifle choice but money is also tight to be dropping it left and right. I have also...
