    Alaska Airlines Credit Card

Airline cards are worth the annual fee, particularly if you fly once or twice a year. Most of them will allow you to check the first bag and your companions bag for free. 2 bags checked twice (round trip) ends up being 4 checked bag fees @ $35/ea = $140. The saving end up paying for the annual...

    Colorado Results?

I got my deer tag in the mail too. I always start getting even more excited for the hunt when can physically view the tag. A little anxiety too, especially if it is a tag that I've waited a long time to draw.

What kind of trekking poles are you using?

I've been using a set of REI carbons. Lightweight and pack small.

    Remington filing for bankruptcy?

My Mom and Stepdad retired in the early 2000’s from the ammunition factory in Lonoke, AR. I worked there for a summer during college and my brother worked there for 2 years while he was going to a community college. We were concerned back then. Saw QC, marketing, R&D and capital investment...

late season elk hunt in arkansas

Hunting elk in Arkansas will be WAY different that hunting elk out west. I've spent a fair amount of time around elk in Arkansas. You need to talk to the local biologist, game warden and landowners(I assume you are hunting private). They will be able to help if you ask questions that make them...

    Sirui T-024SK Tripod w/ VA 5 head

I pulled the trigger and got the tripod and VA5 head. It should come in tomorrow. Happy early Father's Day to me.

    Trekking Poles

Agreed. I've used a lot of different trekking poles the last 20 years. I bought a lightweight set of REI carbon fiber poles because they were on an incredible sale. I didn't think the weight difference would be a big deal. I was wrong. I wouldn't go back to the heavier poles.

Mtn Tactical recoil lugs and bolt shrouds for Tikka T3?

I would agree. I've been thinking about getting both, however, I don't think it will tighten groups immediately. I have a LH Tikka T3 lite in 300 WSM. I really like the gun, but want to make it 'feel' sturdier. I'm trying to decide on the upgrading the lug, bottom metal, pillar & full length bed...

    Sirui T-024SK Tripod w/ VA 5 head

Folks, I'm thinking very seriously about pulling the trigger on the Sirui tripod package next week. Originally, I was thinking about getting the Slik 234 w/ the VA 5 head. I like the Slik better since it is full height. It is hard to justify the price difference since I basically always sit...

    Baseball Draft

I’m an Arkansas baseball and Cardinals fan. Glad to see Kjerstad go #2. He can rake and has power to all fields, but his defense is average. Cardinals picked up a 6’5” 3rd baseman. Should move to 1st base so hopefully he can progress his hitting through the minors. I always enjoy watching the...

    Wyoming Deer & Antelope Draw...

Agreed. The deer hunts are on the same dates. I would make the Antelope tag work.

    Wyoming Deer & Antelope Draw...

This is the first time I've said this but...I hope I don't draw next week. I drew a CO deer tag which I figured was probably a 50/50 chance. If I draw WY I may have to turn the CO tag back.

    Tell me about your tent

I have the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2. I like it and the single entry doesn't bother me. It shed rain well and light snow fairly well. I would not use it in heavy snow unless it was an emergency. I would consider the new Copper Spur UL2 if I were buying now. I like the new vestibule layout. Either...

    Cooler opinions

I use two 120 qt K2's. They work very well for a week in elk or deer camp. Any larger would seem very difficult to handle. The 120's when full are a two man job to move.

If I only knew this when I first started backpacking....

Good call on the Western Mountaineering bag. They are pricey but I've never been awake at night regretting the investment. I've got the Neoair Xtherm in the wide version. I'll never go back to a regular width pad.
