Yeah, hearing about guys dying a yr or 2 after they retire is something that makes this decision to go early a lot easier. I’ve heard similar stories from other cops
For me, it's the nature of my job that makes me want to get out sooner than later. It's been a good career, just not into it anymore like I was early on. As far as the other job goes, it'll be a part time job 2-3 days per week. I really wouldn't need the money, but I can't hunt fish 7 days a...
Lots of good points to ponder. Thanks.
I've heard other guys say that by staying another year, I would actually lose money. Something about that little extra money I'd be getting from staying another year, wouldn't ever "catch me up" to what I'd make if I retired a year earlier? Not sure if I'm...
Very good point. Is it worth it? I keep asking myself that question. I supervise a patrol shift. I have it pretty good because my shift is experienced, and they require very little supervision. So on one hand, it'd be easy money to stay another year, but on the other, I'm tired of the stress of...
I'm in the process of making a decision in the next year and a half or so on whether to retire from my LE career at age 56, or stay for another year past that, and retire at 57. The difference in staying the additional year until age 57, would get me another $300 a month on the monthly pension...
They must be related to some of the people who live on the public lakes in my area: Guys will be bowfishing out of their private boats, and homeowners around the lake will become irate, tell them that they're too close to their docks or property, and they'll also try to call the wardens.
Other than a dust elimination kit (which is pathetic at best), are there any suggestions for eliminating or cutting down the accumulation of dust in the bed of a truck that has a topper. I have an ARE topper with the foam strip around the tailgate area but it barely stops the dust.
Like others have mentioned, CO is not the place I'd look to start an LE career. I'd invite you to come to Iowa. Our Governor has taken steps to strengthen our qualified immunity, where CO has taken away their officers QA. And like others have mentioned, nearly every agency in the U.S. is hiring...
They just flat out look cool. In reality, they keep your pant legs dry, boot laces tied, boots dry, and you can walk across a shallow creek without getting your boots full of water. But they also look really cool. I wear Kuiu yukon gaiters.
Maybe go on a guided cow hunt to start with. They are fairly reasonable. That's what I'm doing this year. My son and I archery hunted last season but he is unable to go along this year so I opted for the guided hunt. I've found them for around $1500-1800 plus lic/tag.
I went to a prescription sleep aid years ago. Melatonin doesn't even touch me. Tylenol PM will work, but I wake up incredibly groggy. I now take Temazapam, which does the trick for me at home and in the mountains.
I will add that my Klymitt Static V pad is way more comfortable than my own bed at home. Not kidding. I think it's one of the heavier pads on the market, but I'll take the weight penalty since it flat out works for me. Couple other things I do is take 800mg of Ibuprofen and a pkt of electrolytes...
I struggle with sleep in my own bed. Been that way for years. Can't really put a finger on a specific reason. Shift work maybe. I have a prescription sleep aid to help, sometimes it works ok, sometimes not. However, on last September's elk trip I slept like never before. We were camped at around...
