Doe/fawn tags used to be easy to get, then were discussed on all of the internet hunting boards. You might want to take the time to look over the doe/fawn odds from 2020. It is very far from a sure thing anymore.
I believe I have seen more elk taken with a 130 grain bullet fired from a 270 than any other rifle/cartridge combination except for the 30-06 using a 180 grain bullet. Of course this memory has been over many years and for part of that time the newer cartridges had not been developed yet. A...
Yes, but I am not sure that I have ever actually seen that model of the SS synthetic BDL. The SPS is relatively common and it might be confused with the BDL. It would make sense to be certain that it was a BDL before buying.
Stainless synthetic with a slick barrel sounds more like an SPS than a BDL. It is basically the same rifle but the SPS can be had for a lower price. I think I paid about $650 for the last new stainless SPS I bought from Buds.
I had a very similar experience with a kudu. The kudu was broadside, shot entered at the rear of the front shoulder, bullet was found in the off-side ham with a deformed tip and no expansion. PH had the skinners track the bullet's path and it appears to have touched the side of a front...
The Nikon is a very good scope for app $1,500. I compared it with the Vortex branded product and the Meopta. It was better to my eyes than the Vortex. The Meopta is an excellent scope. I bought the Nikon, but the Meopta could have easily been the choice.
I was looking for a good quality...
I am an old benchrest shooter. I think everyone I shoot with follows the procedure of fouling bores before a match and cleaning bores before the next shooting session. The fellows will usually clean barrels the next day following shooting. We do use very high quality barrels that clean easily...
The AI version is a little faster, but for all practical purposes it is not significantly better than the regular 280 R. The AI is somewhere between the 7 RM and the 280 R in all thing such as velocity, powder requirements, and barrel life. Whatever floats your boat is the best choice.
Shaw makes barrels that seem very similar in quality to factory barrels and their price is a bit lower than most of the others. Douglas is an upgrade for a few dollars more. If it was mine I would probably go to Douglas. Both of these makers usually keep a reasonably good supply of barrels so...
Hunting pressure is the biggest thing I consider when hunting early season cow elk. Opening morning sometimes means orange hats and horses appearing in unexpected spots.
One of my favorite old spots was a steep rocky bald knob that had a thin fringe of timber at it's base. On opening day...
If you can get 3,000 fps (using a chronograph) with the 175 then that would be clearly my choice between the two. I have killed quite a few elk with the NP. As mentioned above the 160 grain Accubond would be an excellent choice.
I have always received a much better response from the BLM office than the G&F office in Casper. An "in person" visit to the BLM office will probably be well worth the effort when you get to town. Some people do not like having outsiders hunting on the BLM land that their family rents, but the...
