I use a turret press for pistol rounds but use either an "O" (Rockchucker, etc.) or "H" press for rifle cartridges. The turret has a bit of flex, but it is fast.
If you choose the 25-06 I think you will be best served by staying with a 24" (or longer) barrel. A long barrel benefits a 243 also, but they seem to do fine with a 22".
If you can find a Remington 700 it will be very easy to find aftermarket parts such as better triggers and perhaps a youth...
The Kimber Montana is a pretty and lightweight rifle. They have an interesting action and they feel good in the hand, but the stock does not fit me well. I had a 308 for a while, and had quite a time of it to get it to shoot well enough. I had to trim the magazine box and skim bed the action...
That is one usage of the many in modern language listed by Webster, but lithic really does refer to stone. I am sure you can Google some other usages. I am certain that nobody really cares if words used in our modern version of English hold their traditional meaning. I would bet that even...
I suspect that you mean monometal rather than monolithic. The lithic part is for stone. Monolithic is usually a large stone object, but the word has been widely misused and is now often made in reference to other large inflexible object.
Sorry to be "that guy".
It is nice to read such an honest and direct hunting report about how things really are sometimes on public land in the easily drawn units. I think that many new pronghorn hunters expect too much from their first hunt in these units based upon what they have read on the internet sites.
Well...
My best accuracy 280 load moves the 140 grain Nosler AB at approximately 3,050 fps. I use it for elk, mule deer, and pronghorns, and it does it's job quite well.
I used to switch to the 160 grain version for elk but found that the 140 worked for everything.
Colorado first rifle is often fairly warm (40 -50 degrees) during the day. Some years it gets cold early, others it does not. On normal years I wear wool pants over good long johns, a heavy shirt over a good long sleeve undershirt, and an insulated vest. In my day pack I carry a shell parka...
The small primer is used mostly for target shooting. It has just enough primer compound to reliably ignite the powder charge which might produce more consistent results on targets. Most hunting ammunition features a large primer which has more primer compound to reliably ignite the powder...
The inexpensive models work do well enough for most users.
The spotter will have to be screwed directly into an inexpensive window mount. The better window mount models operate more smoothly and have quick attach plates that can be put onto cameras and spotting scopes to make switching easy...
I like my leather De Santis 019 X7. It is comfortable and holds the pistol firmly. Probably most of the guys will prefer the plastic holsters as they are better for fast draw and wet weather.
Other than hunting my main involvement in shooting is benchrest competition. As I have gotten more ripe with age the only competitions I enter are the local matches at the club, but we are fairly serious about it. Often small wagers are placed to make it more fun. At the range at the club on...
With a sporter weight rifle shooting a stout cartridge you should hold the forearm or top of scope to help with bag jump. With heavy target/varmint rifles shooting mild cartridges it is normal to hold only the rear bag. The weight of the rifle, the shape of the stock, and the level of recoil...
For a first rifle, either a good used Remington 700 or good used Ruger 77 would be my choices. There is a huge aftermarket for the Remington, so it is easy to upgrade whenever you wish. That is not the case for many of the others. The Ruger 77 is built like a tank. These rifles would give a...
Making reservations is the smart move. Most reservations can be cancelled if necessary. I have had a few times when I did not make reservations and was left out in the cold (literally).
