I guess I'm a little confused? What kind of sheep tag or tags would you be lobbying for? Are you considering unguided tag or tags for limited, OTC, or both? I can understand why Alaska outfitters would be set against both NOK and nonguided tags I can also see where it would be an advantage...- jimss

How would you get around the guide requirements to do something like this? If it works, you might try the same thing raffling a nonres tag in Wyo wilderness (without guide) for sheep, deer, and elk. Guided sheep hunts in Wyo wilderness are going for $9,000 to $11,000+. In other states without...- jimss

Colorado Public Land Merriam's
West of Pagosa also has a pretty good concentration of turkeys. I'm not sure if they are merriams though? I live farther north on the Front Range. Scouting Depending upon the area you intend on hunting it may take 4 days to figure out access, where the pockets of deer are, etc. A majority of high alpine country in Colo has relatively sparse deer populations, some low or mid elevation areas don't have many deer until snow pushes them down... -

backpack hunting I would caution you about diving right in and attempting a 2 week backpack hunt! My biggest word of advice would be head out to Wyo, Montana, or where ever on a week summer backpack trip....and bring your fishing rod! You will find out in a hurry that you are likely packing... -

Buzz, I took my son hunting this year after drawing a tag using point averaging. I filled my truck up with gas before heading out on the trip. I assisted my son deciding which unit to apply for the tag and harvesting an animal. Sounds like I was a guide and that hunt was illegal! You are one... -

Boot question?
I had a pair of Hanwags but they we're Alaskans. They were decent boots. My preference is Lowa Tibets for that style of boot. If I want a little lighter and flexible I grab my Scarpa Kailash. If I want a little lighter (and quieter) than Scarpas I'll grab my Lowa Renegades. Everyone's feet...- jimss

The are a number of positive aspects to point averaging which often outweigh the negatives. An applicant with a lot of PPs that parties with others loose all their PPs and start at zero the following year, thus dropping the higher PP total pool down and giving other applicants 2 less... -
