I've hunted with a couple guys that were somewhat disabled the past few years. Antelope are a species that such a hunt ought to work well...especially if you have a permit that allows your father to shoot from a vehicle off a 2 track road. You are somewhat at the mercy of the weather if you...
Randy, I sincerely apologize. I meant no dis-respect to you or your son with my posts. Buzz and several others have personally attached me on this and other websites for years and it upset me when it appeared that both of you were doing things that were borderline illegal. Now that the truth...
(iv) “Compensation” and “Remuneration” mean payment of any kind,
without regard to value or agreement, including tips, presents, exchange of property or
services, or bartering for guide services.
Congrats to Mathew on a great bull! Nothing like hunting with internet friends....right Buzz? The brand new Sitka gear is an added touch!! Sweet looking binos and bino case around your neck...hint….hint!!!
My preference is Kifaru but it sounds like you want a different system for packing meat between the pack and frame. I've used and abused my Kifaru for years. They are super comfortable for 100 lb loads and you can customize with a large selection of bags, lid, accessories, etc. You might take...
A lot depends upon where you plan on backpacking and what time of year? There's a dramatic difference in layers I would wear in Alaska vs Colo in the early fall. Even in Colo I would have a different set of layers at 5,000' elevation vs 12,000' the same time of year. You may or may not need...
Wow, you don't see many like that around any more! It reminds me a lot of the Cabela's frame from years gone by! If it were me I'd try to match the straps and padded belt made by Kifaru. It will be a lot more comfortable! I'm not sure if Kifaru, Stone Glacier or other company would sell them...
Hanging in a tree will just dry out the pedicle layer inside the horn and make it impossible to get the horn off. You will likely have bug and smell problems since there is dried out flesh material left inside the horn.
As you've found out a skull/horns dry it is super tough to get horns off...
Here's the regs for Alaska Airlines: https://www.alaskaair.com/content/travel-info/baggage/special-baggage/transporting-firearms
As mentioned above, each airlines likely has it's own set of regs.
I fly to Alaska with firearms just about every year. I would never consider shipping my rifle. Who knows how UPS would treat your rifle in transit. It will also likely cost a small fortune to send UPS? Depending on the airlines and how many bags you have it will likely cost $60 at most on...
Possibly look at a super light weight 2 man tent and a decent nearly new bag on Craigslist, Rokslide classifieds, Ebay, etc. You can pick up a quality 2 man tent for fairly cheap. Also possibly look at a tarptent. If I'm going super light weight during the early season I often use the fly off...
I consider a "truck camp" totally different than a "base camp". A base camp to me is a backpack camp that is 2 to 15 miles from roads. A true "bivy camp" is a backpack style camp where everything is brought with you every day and you hunt with your camp on your back.
I've tried bivy hunting...
I'm not sure if it holds true with the newer Mystery Ranch models but MR tends to be a bit heavy? I noticed the Metcalf weighs a little over 6 lbs. That seems mighty heavy for a 4,300 cu in pack? When I was searching for a hunting pack I had it narrowed down to either Kifaru or Stone Glacier...
I set up a couple fold out tables in our garage. I only process meat a few times in the fall and winter so it's not like I'm having to set things up every week. You could likely set up a rolling kitchen island in your garage so it's all ready to go? If my garage is super cold I have also set...
Setting up a blind and hunting the next day may not work. If there are other water sources available the antelope will likely head elsewhere. If it's the only water for miles you may luck out. I agree with JM to get in the blind well before daylight and spend the entire day there. Pick a...
There are quite a few spots in Colo where there are rio-merriam hybrids. If you hunt the river bottoms east of I25 you are likely hunting rios or rio-merriam hybrids. I drew an area in the mtns of Colo last year where I thought they were all pure merriams. The tom I got had cream colored tail...
I thought where I hunted in the mountains here in Colo were pure merriams. The last 2 I shot (different locations) were more buff colored than white. As mentioned earlier they are either hybrids or possibly pure merriams that aren't 100% white. There are a lot of hybrids running around across...
