The same thing happened to me last year....a guy and two teen kids came marching up behind us while we were moving slowly in hopes of catching elk out feeding. The guy stopped and asked what our plan was and I told him and he said well "That's our plan too....see ya" and he marched up the...
The opening of Montana's general rifle season will provide a welcome food source for bears in the form of gut piles and wounded animals that are not recovered. A reminder to everyone in Western Montana to stay alert when gutting your kill and packing meat.
Sounds like you are having amazing luck.....just not connecting on the shots. Why are you missing so many shots? Too far? Too much vegetation getting in the way? Too excited? Equipment not tuned correctly? If you can figure out what is going wrong, maybe you can correct the problem. Just...
Over the summer I had the good fortune of meeting a new Hunt Talk member (Slade) and sharing my experiences in Montana HD 380. Yesterday I was blessed to join Slade in the mountains and it was more fun than a person should be allowed to have! Do not ever let anyone tell you that a 380 tag is a...
Congrats on the tag - that's awesome! Yes I got mine down out of Toston but didn't hunt there very much in general. Don't be concerned that you haven't seen much for elk - the hills will come alive with elk here in a couple weeks. The spots you mentioned are all good - you won't have any...
Am hearing from a source that the drawings will occur on or around April 22 - next Wednesday. BUT...keep hittin refresh and prove my source wrong!! Would love to rub it in his face. Ha! Good luck to everyone when the results eventually do get posted!
Work production around the state definitely drops in mid-April with page refreshing going on. I too remember finally seeing the results on my phone during the evening....and then had to refresh like 5 times once I did see the unbelievable results to makes sure I wasn't dreaming!!!!!
Cool Find. The possibilities on cause of death are endless......predator, hunter kill that wasn't recovered, vehicle collision, disease, poaching, etc. Thanks for sharing.
I'm right there with you. Not sure what I will do when my youngest boy leaves the nest in a few years. The kids handle all my tech needs around the house.
I have no experience in the Snowy's. The Beartooth is open to one and all for archery season and by permit only for rifle. The Beartooth is a physically demanding hunt because much of the area is walk-in only. Horses make things more doable if you have access to them. I know plenty of bulls...
I consider myself one of the luckiest persons alive to have been able to photograph a bull in Yellowstone while he shed his antlers back in the day of print film. I was watching a group of perhaps a dozen bulls and one approached a small tree and slammed one side against the tree and that...
Randy - I actually wrote up my hunt and had it published in Eastmans Hunting Journal back in the Dec/Jan 2010 issue of the magazine. Unfortunately, you can't read the whole story online - just the first page or so.....guess they want you to buy the magazine. LOL. I believe I have a scanned...
I actually had the Lower Rock Creek tag (HD 210) that year. Both districts are amazing places and seem to be making a comeback from the pneumonia that hit in 2010 I think it was. Did you shoot a good ram? I had a great hunt and shot a nice critter.
I highly recommend Gilchrist's books and videos (old school). I borrowed some books and videos prior to my Rock Creek sheep hunt in 2008 and found them very informative!!
