I live in Middleton, just a short drive away from Emmett. Are you getting a couple acres and a house to live on? Or are you moving into town? Lots of opportunity and plenty of hunters in the small town. Most hunt within a 30 mile radius. Let me know when you get here and I can talk to you more...
If you hunt one of the units you mentioned that has a end date of the 24th, then I would say getting there early and hunting the first couple days is a good idea. If you hunt one of the units that ends on the 31st, I would hunt the last 4-5 days. Either way it should be a good hunt for what you...
I have been shooting my Mathews Q2 for 3 years now, bought it used. My goal before upgrading to a newer bow is to kill an elk and deer with it. I've shot an antelope with it, but know there has to be a newer bow that fits me better.
Family of five, we eat what we've shot 3-4 times a week just for dinner. Usually add in homemade breakfast sausage a 1-2 times a week with breakfast or biscuits and gravy.
Our annual goal is at least 1 elk and 2 deer. Deer seem to become backstrap/tenderloin steaks, the rest is salami, jerky...
Congrats and good job on the hunt. Looks like you had good luck in some areas I hunted a few years ago. The weather this year looks like it made that hunt a blast. Very cool unique bull. Thanks for sharing the hunt.
Thanks everyone, I am a very proud poppa for sure. Madison is getting a nice Christmas present from my brother to mount it on. I'll post up a pic after Christmas. She plans on hanging it in her room, so it reminds her of the hunt until next season.
My daughter Madison got her first buck last weekend. She and another friends son drew a good deer tag. Madison and 5 of us adults also had extra doe tags in hand.
The first day Madison missed a nice 4pt buck, but decided too fill her doe tag about 4 hours later. Unfortunately the deer decided...
Nice buck! Extremely nice for a first mule deer. Good job on taking her out and finding her comfort zones for hunting. Youth tags for the states that offer them are a great thing for youth.
Thanks everyone! I should have the euro mount ready next week.
Yeah, a neck shot and a head shot to finish him kind of left big holes. I probably should have caped him out though.
Good job on filling your tags! I would be happy with that bull! Getting out an elk whole is always a good process. I've done it with two cow elk in the past, including my first one. It kinda spoiled me. Full freezers mean you'll eat well this year.
Finally getting a success story on HT! I still need to do a better job of taking pics of the phases of how my hunts unfold. Onto the story:
I decided 3 years ago to make a commitment to not shoot the first legal deer I had a shot at. This opened up a lot of experience and I learned a bunch...
