Deer, antelope, and elk died from the fire after exhausting themselves running, laying down and the fire consuming them. Depends on the fire and which of the fires around Gillette. Last weekend some pilots told me they did see elk and deer in waterways when flying back to Gillette from fires...
Drew a deer tag! Type 3 WT. Second choice Pronghorn tag, type 6 cow tag, type 8 WT tag, no luck on LQ elk. General deer and elk this year.
One daughter drew 1st choice Pronghorn, no deer/elk. Other daughter and my wife pulled second choice Pronghorn, no deer/elk. Should be a fun fall!
I’m in for Antelope buck, LQ elk tag, type 3 WT, type 6 elk, type 8 WT deer. Wife and daughters are in for Antelope buck, LQ elk, LQ deer. Hoping one of us draws an LQ elk, one pronghorn buck, and get lucky in the LQ deer. All different units for each species except both girls are in for same LQ...
I will be using a tikka 270 wsm and Barnes tsx bullet. The rifle is 14 years old and I changed ammo from accubonds due to using all my reloads and not finding 140 gr bullets in stock the past couple years.
I’ve shot 3 elk and 6 deer with neck shots. I had a really bad case as a teen. This practice caused me to miss a lot of animals until becoming an adult. I didn’t completely stop with neck shots, but all have been under 150 yards. Learning how to shoot in the military with open sights definitely...
I have a variety of random goals:
Draw/hunt Big 3 in ID in the same unit. Sheep has been the one I’m concentrating on first, since 2013. Moose would be second, goat last.
Shoot a 4 pt Mule deer in as a many OTC units south of the Clearwater river as I can. Long way to go 🤣
Hunt as many units...
I think the proposal would be a step in the right direction. Habitat based on Regions needs for the enhancement of mule deer should be included. Obviously this would need to be coordinated with the feds and/or State trust lands.
I would say it would be Region dependent/authorized, but if after...
I like Windy
an app that shows you wind and weather. It zooms in very well for canyons, ridges, and mountains. It helps me with planning routes for archery or rifle hunting.
Over halfway through the application period. Who is in or plans to be?
I applied today for my yearly Sheep tag. This is my first time paying as a nonresident, with my hope that with me paying more, I’ll draw it within the next 3 years. 😂
Good luck to those going after their OIL in Idaho. My...
It was my 3rd year elk hunting, first permit I drew. I applied with my best friend and I put in on the opposite side of the unit. His family gave me crap for not picking the side they have been hunting for 50 years. We scouted a few times in August, finding a few spots, while hoping the elk...

Good to see updated proposal for deer, elk, and antelope.
Personally, we have to pivot on deer options for the wife and kids for LE. Expectations are to hunt general, plan to attend a meeting next week.
Elk options have opened for type 6...
I’ll auction off a hunt with butter bar LTs from each of the 5 military branches.
Each one gets a hard copy map.
The lucky hunter can sit in one spot, preferably above a saddle or on a hilltop, while the experts land nav and split up trying to find their predetermined coordinate locations...
Hunt WY for deer, elk and antelope as a new resident.
Draw an ID Bighorn tag finally!
( I’ll get drawn now that I have to pay non-res prices 🤣)
Put in for MT deer and antelope
Hunt ID for mule deer
Thanks for the info guys.
I plan on hunting OTC for deer and elk if I don’t draw LQ tags. With mule deer on the decline, I don’t plan on hunting mule deer doe. I will try and get WT doe tags for hunting.
With what I’ve found so far it looks like I can hold 3 different tags for deer and elk...
I will be a WY resident this year and have been researching a ton of options for all 3 species.
My thought for a strategy is to apply for all 3 in the same area. I’d apply and hope for one of the 3 tags to hunt, but wondered if anyone has drawn all 3 in the same year? I would apply over 3 years...
