I tried decoys on public for years and feel more effective without them. Just more stuff to lug around and they also make you more committed to a setup, which I think is a negative.

Any alpine lake that is easy access within 3 hours of denver or going to be crammed with people.
That said, I found some good, close not too busy camping on the front range last year while scouting for deer. The ticket was to have no reason to go there. No lake, river, peak etc.
Got out yesterday for my final hunt of 2022. We found a total of 9 birds, but 7 were hens. I was very impressed with how she held point given how little training we have done.
