I bought a pair of Crispi Hunter GTX in 2016 in preparation for an Alaska hunt. They've held up very well and are my go-to when I need a lot of support plus comfort and dryness. I also use a pair of Scarpa SL Activ, which I also really like, for my uninsulated non-GTX boot. I treat both with...
Don't know about the scabbard fit. I'll probably find out in a few years... I'll probably have to get horses to keep my dad in the field. Plus, I seem to not be getting thinner😆 and the idea of another creature packing my gear and me is becoming more appealing by the year!
Personal preference I guess. If you just want the lightest rifle you can find that will shoot well, more power to you.
I have always preferred heavier rifles. I'm a big guy, so what's a pound or two on a hike? Plus it's much more enjoyable to shoot. My wife had an ultralight 308 that fit your...
I have the S20 Hunter in a 6.5 Creedmoor and it's by FAR my favorite hunting rifle for deer and antelope. I love the balance, the ergonomics, and it shot 1/2 MOA right out of the box with factory ammo. I picked mine up for $950 last year. Now my Dad wants one, but I can't find one for that price!
My 10-yr old's 1st big game animal shot yesterday. Had to drive down to TX for it because he's too young to hunt in WY. Hard hunting with crazy heat (85 degree days), but we finally saw something on day 3 and he was able to connect with a 6.5 CM from 130 yds!!
I was getting ready to head out to teach Business Calculus and was watching the news while eating my breakfast. I turned it on right after the first plane hit and was watching when the second one did...it was surreal, like an out of body experience. I left for class not knowing what the end of...
When your cell phone falls out of your pocket during "competition" it's not a sport...get rid of skateboarding (I can only watch guys fall off a railing so many times). Add American football.
You are correct -- I just haven't seen too many other WHMAs around that are managed as an HMA. To me the HMA effectively negates the WHMA aspect of it. It particularly stinks because they pulled the one accessible state section bordering NF and put it into the HMA, so now that's not even accessible.
You could make that argument for any piece of State land. But 80 is a joke (we could make it 8,000 and it would still receive the same pressure because it isn't accessible) -- anyone hunting past Nov. will struggle just to get the boundary of the HMA, much less actually hunt it.
So in a classic bait and switch, it was initially proposed to the public last year as a WHMA, which would mean the public that wanted to hike in could access it. Instead they made it an HMA for use by only the lucky few.
You mean the measly 5 people that can actually draw it? It will be effectively inaccessible during the late elk season. I was initially excited, but it will be harder to draw permission than a sheep tag! https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Public-Access/Hunter-Management-Areas/Pilot-Hill
The site says 10 am MDT on the 12th, not 8 am. Anyways, if its a first-come first-serve HMA, those typically don't open until later in the year...each one has its own opening date. For example, on that I plan to try to get doesn't accept applications until mid-November. If I were you I would...
It should be fun to see the HT threads later in the year from whomever drew 38-2 antelope tags asking for advice about where they and the other 399 tags can actually hunt. The tag was supposed to better distribute hunters on private...now I think it will just overwhelm what little public there is.
They're not very good deer areas anymore...there are MUCH better general areas in WY. Particularly during the season, the deer are just sparse. They come out some later, but you can't hunt them at that time.
