Great buck! I don’t shoot big bucks very often so my opinion doesn’t mean crap but I’m in the 4.5 year old camp. I’d say 3.5 but his antlers have a lot of mass for a 3 year old. Doesn’t matter though, I’d be pumped to shoot a buck like that.
I have a BLR in .308 that I use for whitetail hunting. The trigger is stiff however, most of my shots on deer happen fast. Situations where I feel a stiffer trigger is better. A BLR is not a great rifle for long supported shots but it is a great rifle for hunting in the woods. My BLR is paired...
My big goal this fall was to kill a bull elk with my bow. I gave it my best effort the last 8 days but came up short. I was close a few times. One bull was definitely on his way in until he caught wind of some other hunters, or more accurately spectators. Thanks “Ohio Boys”. Of course a shot...
My brine is 2 quarts water, 2/3 cup kosher salt, 2 cups of brown sugar. I brine the fillets for 8-10 hours, 6-8 hours for the small tail pieces. Big fillets could soak in the brine longer but I usually don’t keep lakers over 8 or 9 pounds. 15 pound lake trout are a blast to catch but I’d rather...
Definitely keep your bride. When I got married 21 years ago my wife didn’t care for wild game. I never pushed the issue. I just cooked it and ate it. Things slowly changed. Now she really enjoys venison, elk, grouse, turkey, walleye, pike, trout, etc. she even started fishing about 5 years ago...
As turkey hunting is to elk hunting; find a good spot to set up and call once you hear one. Duck hunting is to whitetail hunting; set up before the butt crack of dawn and hope that you are in the right spot with the right wind.
It should be fun to read the responses on this thread. This question could be discussed for hours around a campfire. I have hunted both but I’m certainty not any sort of authority on either. There’s definitely a lot of skills, experiences, and lessons learned that are applicable to many hunting...
Here are my thoughts even though I can’t answer your questions. If the child birth goes well then having extra people around is a PITA. The only thing mom and dad need is people to drop off a meal once in a while. If your son and DIL had other children then you’d be able to be a huge help by...
I leave for Montana in 30 days. I’ve been shooting my bow all summer but otherwise I’m not ready at all. In a couple of weeks my brain should make the switch from fishin’ to huntin’.
