I can only speak to cook county. For the past 48 years I have either lived here, hunted here, or both almost every single year. Wolves have always been here. Deer have always been here. The past years the deer harvest in area 126 has gone from over 300 to around 150 to around 75 and now this...
We went and got our tree on Thanksgiving morning before I went to work. Balsam fur, looks to be a 9 year old that I passed on last fall. I put it in the house today but won’t do any of the final trimming unsupervised. In my wife’s defense I did turn a tree into a perfect rectangle one year.
You’re a wise man for dragging the whole family out there. I do the same. Then everyone is responsible for the tree that was selected. Plus there are only so many family Christmas tree adventures in a lifetime.
Happy Thanksgiving.
And in that day you will say:
“Praise the Lord, call upon His name;
Declare His deeds among the peoples,
Make mention that His name is exalted.
Sing to the Lord,
For He has done excellent things;
This is known in all the earth.
Isaiah 12:4-5
GJ- Hopefully you posting this will provide some closure to another hunter. It sucks that your elk meat might be questionable.
This thread mentions 4 elk shot by bow hunters that were not recovered. Someone was quick to point out that one of the 4 was possibly a mechanical broadhead. What about...
I would shoot either, both great bucks and bigger than the deer that I shoot. However, since you asked I’ll give you my opinion. Shoot “The Boss”, he’s a great buck and who doesn’t love a big 8 or 9 pt. Let “Fancy Rack” live and he might be the buck of a lifetime if you can track him down next year.
I don’t like gaiters. They are just one more thing that gets wet, makes noise, comes undone, gets snagged on stuff, to put on, etc., etc. Good socks, good boots, and pants are sufficient. If I hunted around venomous snakes then I’d deal with all the annoyances of gaiters.
900 yards into a 6 million acre park. Yeah they got a little excited and screwed up. Should have continued to try and call the bull across the park boundary. If I had witnessed this I would probably not have said anything unless I felt that they were complete douche bags, and maybe they are...
I’m not sure what the deer strategy for the state of Minnesota is. I should really get involved somehow. In recent years I’ve seen the deer heard mid Gunflint trail and the end of the Gunflint trail completely disappear. 70 years ago those areas were wilderness deer hunts that people dream...
Yep. Whenever I’m freezing walleyes I just wrap the cheeks in plastic wrap and put them in a freezer bag. When the freezer bag starts getting full it’s time to fry cheeks.
