I probably won’t sell this boat on hunt talk but I’m posting it here on the off chance that someone knows someone in northeast MN or northwest WI that is looking for a boat.
2001 Alumacraft Lunker 165 LTD. Hull is in great shape. Removed the old carpeting last winter and replaced it with padded...
I guess what I’m saying in my post above is trust yourself. Western hunters can learn a few things from those of us used to hunting spooky whitetails. When it’s time, draw your bow, settle your pin, and take your shot. Sometimes that sequence is fast and you gotta have confidence.
I’ve been trying to decide for about 10 minutes if I should respond to this cause my response might not be popular. Range finders are great tools but a hunter should be able to judge distances very well, especially inside of 50 yards. If there is an animal near by that I might want to shoot, my...
Welcome. Sometimes youth is better than wisdom. As you get older moose and elk get heavier, hills get steeper, miles get longer, hard to get to spots become “hell no” spots. Hunt like a mad man while you are young.
My 2001 Alumacraft Lunker is plenty functional. Did a lot of work on the floor last winter. The 2009 Yamaha that pushes it around runs perfectly as I’ve kept up on the maintenance. For whatever reason I started looking at some new boats. That was a mistake cause now I want a new boat.
There is a lot of crap for sale, that’s for sure. I haven’t been able to find a brand of split shot sinkers that is worth a darn lately. Monofilament line definitely has its uses. I have been using Berkley Trilene for years now, no reason to switch. When I troll for pike and lake trout I use...
I know nothing about the lakes that you fish so my opinion isn’t anything more than rambling. On the systems that I fish I would not anticipate much of a change with the weather that you described. It’s still going to be dang near 80 degrees where you are at.
In my neck of the woods the weather...
I’m confused when you say shift lever cause any small merc that I have ever used had the shift built into the throttle. Turn it left and that is forward, turn it more left and that is faster. Turn it right, and that is reverse. There should be a center position for neutral. I had a mid 1990’s...
A couple a fish pictures from our trip this weekend. The biggest walleye was 27”. The biggest pike was 40” (give or take an inch). The tape on my canoe only goes to 36” but my daughter is 12 so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and called it a 40” pike. There were plenty of other pike and...
She caught a nice thick 30” last summer. I had an 8x10 canvas print made from that picture and it looks great. I’ll probably do the same with this one.
My daughter caught and released a nice 30” walleye today and I released two around 26”. All in all, it was a really good day. I released a skinny 28” a few days ago from one of the few motor lakes in the BWCA.
Don’t neglect small spoons. Trout love spoons. Retrieve as slowly as you can without getting snagged so the spoon has a nice wobble to it. Like others have said, a bobber is the way to go for young kids. If you get some weighted slip bobbers it’s easier to cast out a little farther from shore.
We eat walleye like Alaskans eat salmon. I name most of my fishing spots. Where we went yesterday is simply called “the spot”. It’s a long day trip and we only make it there two or three times each summer but it usually pays off.
