I have owned two dodges, with one Chevy between the two dodge. First two were half tons, current dodge is a 3/4 ton dodge with the 6.4 l v8 in crew cab. I bought it this spring when the Chevy crapped out. I obviously can't help with the longevity of the current rig. All rigs I've bought were...
No opinions on the call, never used it. Folks have varying opinions on bugling. I bugle sparingly as a general rule, however, I have called in several Bulls using only a bugle. They came in hard and looking for a scrap. I do not bugle unless I'm fairly certain there aren't any other hunters in...
I've used the trophy bonded tip on several elk out of my 270. Only recovered 1 bullet, retained about 90% of its weight. Took one with my 308 with the same stuff and didn't recover a bullet. I've been pleased with it, accurate and does the job for me.
I hiked all over that country for 7 years fishing and such when we lived in Billings. Haven't been there in a few years. I didn't see many elk...at all. I'm sure there's a few, but they are not in abundance like many other areas are. It's some steep and tough country.
We had a 27ft Springdale. Had bunk beds in the back for the kids, they're young, would have been pretty tight for a 12 yo. Queen bed up front. It served us fine. We upgraded to a 32 ft this yr with a slide. We're in it every weekend for 2 mo for baseball. It's snug to get into some spots. The...
Thanks for the replies all. My oldest is 9, when he turns 12 we'll likely be upland hunting more. We live in SW MT, so getting a less common breed could be difficult. We are a family on the go all 12 months. Hiking, fishing and such. I coyote hunt a fair amount in the winter & always take our...
Hello, I was hoping to get some insight from those with experience with German Shorthair or Vizsla breeds. A little history may be helpful. I grew up in a house with black labs. I have continued with that and currently have my second lab. Our first, was bred to hunt all day long. He was a...
I've called cows in every week of bow season. One week hasn't seemed any better than another for me at least. However, where I hunt I don't go more than a mile from the rig the first week or so. I am usually by myself so if the weathers warm the pack out can be interesting. I usually hunt the...
I've killed three elk with 125gr shuttle t's. 2 were complete pass through, arrow stuck in the ground 10 yards past where the elk was standing. Third one, the front 6" of arrow was sticking out the off side. It's the only broad head I've used, no reason to change.
It all depends what they do. If they basically are just cleaning things up in the joint you'll be fine in May. I basically had a rebuild 15 yrs ago. Rotator cuff, screws, bone graft blah blah blah. I had it done in April. Was in an immobilized at all times for 6 months. Was not allowed to work...
I'm 6'4" & also have the stone glacier solo. I don't backpack hunt, it's just a daypack for me. It's overkill for that. But, I've hauled out 4 elk now with it and am glad I have it. It has held up well and swallows large amounts of meat. It's stays are long enough for me, I'm able to keep the...
I worked with a gal that, in her mid 20's broke her hip while running a marathon. She had replacement surgery a couple days later. 12 months later, she ran that marathon again. She has run many since.
It was a very memorable hunt for sure. Unfortunately, no pics, darkness had come upon us and our 3 yo became slightly terrified. We brushed it in under a bush for the night and hiked out. Our youngest was NOT ok with being out after dark until our older son told him "I'm pretty sure the safest...
My wife has a antlerless elk depredation tag for MT that's good through mid February, started mid January. We were not able to get out until today. I took her out this morning, hiked a few miles, was great to be out with her. Didn't see anything. Had to get our 2 boys from school/daycare early...
I emailed Daines and Tester several months ago. Testers response was that he agrees that states taking control of federal lands was a bad idea. Daines office essentially said , you don't know what's best, we do so don't you worry about it. Daines response was that states should manage federal...
I have Lowa tibet gtx hikers and the hi gtx. Both uninsulated. I like both boots. If I'm off trail carrying much weight I like the extra ankle support of the hi. I wear the hikers all summer, my feet get a little warm at times but not too bad. I can't hardly wear anything less supportive for my...
